Nature & Scope → Your Role at Roots
As a Payroll and Benefits Specialist, you will play a vital role in ensuring the accurate and timely processing of payroll and benefits for our employees across Canada and the U.S. This role requires a detail-oriented professional with strong analytical skills and a deep understanding of payroll systems, benefits administration, and employment legislation. You’ll work closely with HR, Finance, and external vendors to deliver seamless payroll operations and exceptional employee service.
Key Responsibilities → How You’ll Make an Impact
- Process full-cycle payrolls for hourly and salaried employees across multiple provinces in Canada and two locations in USA.
- Administer employee benefits, including enrollments, updates, and issue resolution.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and federal/provincial/state legislation.
- Maintain accurate employee records in payroll and benefits systems.
- Respond to employee inquiries regarding payroll, benefits, and system issues with professionalism and confidentiality.
- Assist with ROEs, and other payroll-related documentation.
- Collaborate with the Manager, Payroll & Benefits on daily operations and process improvements.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with third-party providers.
- Create and maintain payroll process documentation and generate custom reports as needed.
- Execute post-payroll and month-end processes ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Reconcile payroll-related accounts and support month-end close activities.
- Contribute to system-based solutions by understanding organizational structure.
- Support year-end payroll activities, including T4s, T4As, RL-1s, T2200s, and remittances.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Experience → The Skills You Bring
- Post-secondary education in a related field (University degree or College diploma preferred).
- Minimum 3 years of experience in payroll and benefits administration.
- PCP certification is an asset.
- Experience with Ceridian Dayforce is highly desirable.
- Strong knowledge of Canadian and U.S. payroll and benefits regulations.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain confidentiality.
- Strong customer service orientation and ability to work independently and collaboratively.
