Instructor Assistant, Food & Beverage Service
The School of Hospitality & Tourism is seeking an instructional assistant for in-person support of instructors and students in practical, hands-on courses that introduce students to the fundamentals of food and beverage service and the impact it has on the success of the restaurant. The Supervisory Food and Beverage Service courses deal with the elements of service through theoretical discussion and hands on practical service through both the operation of our Scholar’s Dining Room and by hosting large events to the public. Applicants must be available to work late afternoons and evening shifts and provide supporting services including administrative duties relating to point-of-sale system operation; cash, credit, and debit card payment processing; balancing daily sales and preparing bank deposits; bar inventory control and other duties related to the operation of the dining room and banquet facility.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
Under guidance of the instructor, the Instructional Assistant will:
- Support the educational process by assisting faculty and students.
- Support and maintain a positive learning environment.
- Prepare materials and course related resources.
- Participate in demonstrations and supervise hands-on learning activities.
- Complete administrative duties relating to the operation of Scholar’s Dining room
- Uphold safety practices and professionalism at all times.
- Other duties as assigned by the school chair.
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
- A robust understanding of the subject matter and its relationship to the hospitality & tourism industry.
- Strong bartending and bar management skills
- Excellent communication, team work, and time management skills.
- Proficient computer skills and experience (including Microsoft Word, Excel).
- Working knowledge of Moodle or other Learning Management System or experience in online delivery is an asset.
- Ability to relate with a diversity of students from multiple cultural backgrounds.
Education and Experience
- Three (3) years in the hospitality industry with a combination of post-secondary education and experience equaling a minimum of seven (7) years
- A diploma in a related field; however, preference may be given to those with a Degree or Masters in a related discipline.
- Senior management experience in the hospitality industry is an asset.
- Previous teaching experience in a post-secondary environment is an asset.
- Provincial Instructional Diploma or equivalent is an asset.
This is a non-regular, part-time (20%) position, commencing September 8, 2025, and ending December 12, 2025**. Salary and Benefits are in accordance with the BCGEU Collective Agreement. The salary range is $2,210.65 - $3,542.46 bi-weekly (at 100% appointment) and is based on qualifications and experience.**
