Who Are You?

The Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Manager is a HSE professional who thrives in industrial environments and knows how to turn compliance into culture. You believe safety isn’t a checklist — it’s a mindset. You bring a strategic vision and hands-on leadership to every interaction, from incident investigations to executive reporting.

The HSE Manager will report to the Director of Health and Safety and is responsible for fostering a world-class Health and Safety culture. By providing guidance, coaching, and mentorship to employees at all levels within the manufacturing facility, the HSE Manager shall be instrumental in the improvement of Weldco-Beales Health and Safety performance while maintaining compliance with occupational health, safety, and environment legislation.

What Will You Do?

At the Corporate Level:

  • Works with the Director and other HSE positions to establish corporate HSE policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Tracks and maintains Health, Safety and Environment Key Performance Indicators (KPI’S) including the publishing of such data for stakeholders.
  • Participates in annual document and risk assessment reviews with the intent to improve upon existing corporate HSE policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Acts as a positive change agent in supporting corporate HSE visions, new initiatives, and goals.

At the Branch Level:

  • Responds expeditiously to requests or inquiries pertaining to health, safety and environment related issues from employees and management.
  • Provides coaching and mentorship to the local leadership team to help implement the corporate Health, Safety and Environment Management System(s).
  • Tracks and advises local leadership on current and proposed changes to applicable federal, provincial/state, or municipal health, safety, and environment legislation to help ensure compliance.
  • Advises local leadership on regulatory requirements for the control of identified hazards.
  • Reviews new products, equipment and processes for potential hazards and recommends modifications before introductions.
  • Manages HSE tracking system within branch of responsibility to ensure inputs and outputs are meeting the organization’s requirements.
  • Provides local leadership with regular updates, reports and suggestions for improvement on operational HSE issues.
  • Supports the orientation, education, and training of employees in health, safety, and environmental practices.
  • Leads near-miss and incident investigations as per the organization’s incident management process.
  • Reviews hazard and incident reports to identify trends and opportunities that need improvement.
  • Manages workers’ compensation claims and accounts within branch of responsibility to ensure local reporting requirements are met and claims are managed until closed.
  • Perform or aid in the completion of external or internal health, safety and environment audits including the development of action plans to support improvements.

Sound Familiar?

  • Proven leadership with strong interpersonal, coaching, and communication skills (written, verbal, and presentation).
  • Experienced in auditing and managing HSE systems (ISO 45001, ISO 14001, COR) with solid understanding of OH&S legislation.
  • Skilled in organizing and coordinating safety programs, meetings, audits, and workshops.
  • Detail-oriented and results-driven with excellent time management and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and fluent in English, both written and spoken.
  • Persuasive, patient, and diplomatic — able to build trust and drive change across teams.
  • Self-motivated and resourceful, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Willing to travel to other WBM locations to support company-wide safety initiatives.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Diploma or Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline (Preferred)

Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years in industrial HSE roles
  • Proven knowledge of OH&S regulations and best practices
  • Experience managing workers’ compensation and return-to-work programs
  • Experience with ISO 45001, ISO 14001, and COR certifications (Preferred)
  • Manufacturing or heavy equipment industry background (Preferred)

Certifications:

  • OH&S designation (e.g., CRSP, CHSC, or equivalent)
  • BCCSA Internal Auditor
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license
