About the role
Strive Living Society (Strive) is looking for caring and enthusiastic individuals to join our progressive non-profit organization as Support Workers in our Hybrid Supported Home Share program. The Hybrid Supported Home Share Program is a wrap-around model of care that Strive provides to Adults with complex behavioral, social, and medical needs. Individuals are placed into carefully matched family care homes and receive a minimum of 30+ hours of one-to-one support per week, as well as ongoing case management.
The position entails working in a community setting (one-to-one) with individuals diagnosed with developmental delays, ADHD, FASD as well as Autism, OCD and challenging behaviors. The successful candidate would spend most of their time assisting Adults to work towards their goals, teaching life skills, community integration and social skills.

Pay rate: $25.95/hour *plus benefits upon meeting eligibility requirements.
- Some benefits have eligibility requirements of surpassing three (3) months and securing a regular position of 20 hours/week or more. The benefits and criteria may change from time to time at the discretion of Strive.
The ideal applicant shall possess:
- Experience working with behavioural support plans and safety plans
- Experience working with high-anxiety individuals
- Experience and understanding of Mental Health and Challenging Behaviours
- Demonstrated ability to work with adults with behavioural, social, emotional and mental health/psychiatric issues
- Ability to create a meaningful routine
- Crisis management
- Knowledgeable of creating independence vs. creating dependence
- Completing daily documentation on a Microsoft platform database on their own computer
- Implementing personal protocols, schedules, and activities
- Accompanying/transporting individuals to appointments and activities in the community
- Community integration
- Able to set firm boundaries
- Ability to encourage, motivate and involve the client in community activities.
- Access to computer and internet
- Proven ability to develop a rapport with adults in a variety of contexts.
- Ability to communicate effectively (both verbally and in writing) with educational personnel, social workers and resource workers, service providers and partners
- Able to self-start, make judgment calls, and create new models/programs as needed
- Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team environment
- Proven ability to work with minimal supervision
- The physical ability to perform all the duties required of the position
Job qualifications include (if you do not have all of these, but demonstrate you are a good fit for the position, Strive may be able assist you to acquire some of these requirements):
- Class 5 BC Driver’s License required and clean driver’s abstract
- Minimum of 1-year of experience (or combination of education and experience)
- University degree or college diploma in a Community Social Worker program and/or similar
- Positive Behaviour Management Training
- Criminal Record Clearance, Ministry of Justice.
- First Aid and CPR Certificate
- MANDT Training will be offered in house
- Food Safe Certificate
- 2 professional references

Strive Living Society (formally Howe Sound Rehabilitation Services Society) is a registered nonprofit organization that provides community and residential services for children, youth, adults, and seniors with diverse abilities.
Founded in 1988 by a Psychologist and Social Worker with the shared belief that even the most challenging individuals could live successfully in the community, Strive began as a modest group home for three young adults with developmental disabilities from the former Woodlands Hospital.
Today, Strive serves not only adults with developmental disabilities, but also children, youth, and seniors with physical disabilities, acquired brain injuries, medical complications, mental health issues, autism spectrum disorders, behavioural obstacles, and/or dementia. In addition to residential resources, Strive operates drop-in centres, community-based programs, and home-based services.
