What You Need to Note:

The results of this process may be used to staff future positions, in various CNSC locations, with similar qualifications and various tenures including term, acting, assignment and indeterminate.

What you’ll do

Provides the following technical services in support of CNSC Operations within technical area of specialization:

  • Assess licensee submissions by reviewing, assessing and analyzing documentation and analysis provided in the licensee’s submissions
  • Participate in and assist with technical inspections.
  • Establish and maintain specific computational capabilities, in some cases
  • Draft reports and other documentation.
  • Assist with managing projects.
  • Attend and participate in national and international technical/scientific meetings and organizations.

Essential Qualifications:

Education:

Degree in physics, chemistry or engineering with moderate knowledge in one or more of the following areas: nuclear, mechanical, civil, electrical, manufacturing or production engineering, materials science, metallurgy, safety analysis, nuclear fuel, fire protection, instrumentation, cyber security, maintenance, risk assessment and stress analysis. Or an equivalent combination of education, experience and knowledge as defined in this work description. Preference will be given to candidates with a postgraduate degree.

Language Requirements:

English Essential

Experience in:

  • assisting in preparing technical reports,

  • any of the following areas of engineering: analysis, design, evaluation, construction, inspection, and/or ageing management,

  • severe accident computer codes like MAAP, MELCOR, or GOTHIC and analysis, using computation fluid dynamic or finite element codes.

Knowledge of:

  • Moderate and broad knowledge of the nuclear domain such as research, design, construction, operations and safety.
  • Moderate and broad knowledge of physics, chemistry or engineering in one or more of the following fields of expertise: nuclear, mechanical, civil, electrical, manufacturing or production engineering, materials science, metallurgy, safety analysis, nuclear fuel, fire protection, instrumentation, cyber security, maintenance, risk assessment and stress analysis in order to provide assessments and preliminary recommendations on submissions by licensees relating to nuclear reactor systems.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Nuclear Safety and Control Act, Regulations and supporting guidance documentation. Sound understanding of other relevant legislation and standards (CSA, ISA, IEEE, ANSI, IAEA etc).
  • Thorough knowledge of inspection, investigation techniques, procedures and practices to conduct inspections and participate in investigations.
  • Sound knowledge of the principles of project management including project definition, justification and planning, resource allocation, development of appropriate control and co-ordination mechanisms, communication, implementation, monitoring and plan adjustment and project evaluation.
  • Understanding of government contractual processes and regulations.

Operational Needs:

All CNSC staff are subject to the Mobility Directive.
This position requires infrequent travel.
Overtime: Overtime may be required.
