About the Role
Director of Finance, reporting to the Financial Officer, leads and strengthens our finance operations across payroll, accounting, reporting, and systems development. The Director oversees a skilled finance team while working closely with the leadership team to support sound decision-making and organizational sustainability.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Lead day-to-day operations of the Finance Department (payroll, AP/AR, reporting, internal controls).
- Supervise, mentor, and grow a high-performing team with a collaborative spirit.
- Oversee internal and external financial reporting, budget forecasting, and audit processes.
- Evaluate and improve financial systems and technology to increase efficiency.
- Ensure internal controls safeguard the organization's financial assets and align with compliance standards.
- Partner with internal and external stakeholders including managers, auditors, and vendors.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, funding requirements, and internal policies.
- Prepare for and present financial updates and strategic insights at leadership meetings, serving as a key resource for financial decision-making.
- Champion a positive, transparent, and forward-thinking financial culture at ICS.
Who You Are
You are a CPA with strong operational finance experience and a commitment to continuous improvement who thrives in environments where you can lead, innovate, and collaborate with diverse teams.
Your experience in the nonprofit or community services sector has given you a deep understanding of funding models, compliance, and the importance of financial stewardship in creating lasting community impact.
You bring both people leadership and technical savvy to your work. You’re driven by purpose and see the connection between strong financial systems and strong communities.
Qualifications:
- Professional accounting designation (CPA or equivalent).
- At least 5 years of experience in financial leadership in complex (preferably unionized) organizations.
- In-depth knowledge of nonprofit or charitable financial operations and community-based programs.
- Proficiency in financial systems, budget forecasting, reporting, and internal controls.
- Experience with financial technology systems and innovation in system design.
- Proven ability to lead and develop teams with growth mindset.
- Exceptional communication skills that promote seamless collaboration across diverse, multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly.
- An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
JOB INFORMATION
Position Type: Full-Time
Hours: 40 hours per week, with flexible availability required, including occasional evenings and weekends as needed.
Location: Hybrid position based in Kamloops, BC
Job Requirements:
- Professional accounting designation (CPA or equivalent)
- Willingness to undergo a Criminal Record Check

Our front line staff are community support workers, home support workers, family support works and counsellors doing very important work in Kamloops, Merritt and surrounding communities within complex systems and they are passionate in supporting the most vulnerable individuals in our communities. Our programs and services encompass early childhood, family support, pre-natal, youth, seniors and people with disabilities.
Interior Community Services (ICS) is a non-profit accredited social service agency providing a wide range of support and intervention services to people of all ages in the BC Interior region. We have been in the community for over 45 years and are currently the largest non-profit in the interior of BC.
