About the role

The Jean Augustine Centre for Young Women’s Empowerment (the “Centre”) is excited to announce the hiring of a Volunteer Coordinator. This position is a temporary contract and will run from July 2025 to December 2026. The Volunteer Coordinator will play a lead role in recruiting, training and supporting a diverse team of volunteers who power our programs—from homework clubs and STEM workshops to arts camps and mentoring circles.

We seek enthusiastic candidates with excellent interpersonal skills, a genuine passion for youth development and civic engagement, and prior experience in a similar role.

Company Overview

The Centre is committed to empowering young women and girls between the ages of 7-17 years in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) and across Canada. We take a holistic approach to empowerment by providing programs that support the mental, physical, and social well-being of young women and girls; and, extend support to women and families in the riding of Etobicoke-Lakeshore in the GTA through our community programs and services.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute volunteer recruitment campaigns (online, community outreach).
  • Manage and maintain a volunteer database of 150+ volunteers.
  • Create and maintain volunteer schedules, matching skills/interests to program needs.
  • Screen, interview, and onboard new volunteers; conduct background checks when necessary.
  • Assist in designing and delivering orientation sessions, training materials, and ongoing skill-building

workshops.

  • Serve as the primary point of contact to answer questions, resolve conflicts, and recognize outstanding

contributions.

  • Track volunteer hours, prepare participation reports, and provide data for grant applications.
  • Support the planning of quarterly volunteer appreciation initiatives and feedback surveys.
  • Participate in weekly staff meetings.

Qualifications

  • Minimum one year of demonstrated experience overseeing volunteer coordination, preferably in a non-profit organization.
  • Outgoing and confident, with strong communication skills.
  • Passionate about community engagement and supporting underserved populations.
  • Knowledge of and experience working from a cultural competency or equity-informed framework.
  • Communicates effectively with Centre staff, volunteers, and students.
  • Committed to responsible, ethical, and professional conduct in the workplace.
  • First Aid and CPR Certification.
  • A valid Police Records Check – Vulnerable Sector.
  • Above the age of 18 years.

Work Location and Schedule

The Volunteer Coordinator will work in-person at the Centre. We are located at 101 Portland Street, Etobicoke, ON M8Y 1B1. The schedule will be 15 hours per week - on site.
