The Ontario Securities Commission (OSC) is the statutory body responsible for regulating Ontario’s capital markets in accordance with the mandate established in the provincial Securities Act and the Commodity Futures Act. The mandate of the OSC is to provide protection to investors from unfair, improper or fraudulent practices, to foster fair, efficient and competitive capital markets and confidence in the capital markets, to foster capital formation, and to contribute to the stability of the financial system and the reduction of systemic risk. This mandate is performed through policy, operational, and enforcement activities. The OSC also contributes to national and global securities regulation development.

The Senior Advisor Innovation Outreach & Engagement plays a key role in developing and implementing the Innovation Office’s strategy for effective stakeholder engagement.

The Innovation Office is focused on deepening engagement with the innovation community to build a stronger innovation ecosystem for Ontario’s capital markets and better serve our stakeholders. Through stronger engagement and collaboration, the Innovation Office aims to ensure that stakeholder input is considered in OSC policy making and operational programs and that business support services align with stakeholder priorities.

This is a key role within the Innovation Office that supports our outreach and engagement with stakeholders including angel and venture capital investors, entrepreneurs, innovators, early-stage and growth businesses, and the organizations that support them including innovation hubs, trade organizations, and professional advisors. The Senior Advisor is responsible for building relationships and regularly engaging stakeholders to promote participation in Innovation Office research initiatives and programs.

What you will be doing:

  • Provide strategic advice to Innovation Office management team on matters related to outreach and engagement with external stakeholders including identifying industries/sectors and stakeholder groups to prioritize, developing engagement strategies and executing those strategies.
  • Build relationships with external stakeholders within our regulated ecosystem as well as the broader innovation community to, among other things, understand their needs and priorities and solicit their input, support and/or participation in Innovation Office initiatives.
  • Support research initiatives aimed at collecting the perspectives of external stakeholders to inform ongoing testing/program offerings, set priorities, and develop future programs/tests. Develop outreach and engagement plans, manage existing plans, and leverage stakeholder relationships to support the collection of actionable feedback and broad and diverse participation from within and across stakeholder segments.
  • Draft plain language content that is responsive, consumable and accessible to better engage with and support all our varied stakeholders – including those less familiar with the OSC and our regulatory environment.
  • Develop content for our website, social media, marketing materials, educational materials, speaking notes, videos, podcasts, presentations, and internal and external business reporting as well as contributing to thought leadership and research papers.
  • Prepare internal presentations and reports to share stakeholder feedback, summarize results and data collected through our programs and report on the activities of the Innovation Office.
  • Collect stakeholder feedback to inform content development and offer strategic advice and guidance on content design to develop content for general application and targeted to engage specific stakeholder groups.
  • Participation and presence at stakeholder events, conferences as well as general engagement with the start up, scale up, and investment community.

What you bring:

  • Undergraduate degree in a related field
  • Five or more years experience - Communications or Public Relations experience preferred
  • Client facing or outside customer engagement experience is an asset
  • Experience in investments, finance, economics and/or knowledge of the Canadian capital markets or securities regulation is an asset
  • Excellent writing and communication skills with an emphasis on communicating complex concepts in a clear and accessible way
  • Outstanding organizational and time-management skills
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative and perform at a high level under pressure
