The position involves purchasing medications and supplies for the pharmacy department from various sources and collaborating with pharmacy management and staff, manufacturers, distributors and group purchasing organization to help mitigate drug shortages.
Qualifications
- Minimum grade 12 diploma or equivalent
- Medical/Pharmaceutical terminology certificate required
- Previous procurement and experience working with computerized procurement system is preferred
- Previous experience in a hospital or retail pharmacy is strongly preferred
- Intermediate skill level required for MSWord, MSExcel, e-mail, internet, and data entry
- Clerical testing may be required as part of the selection process
- Demonstrates strong customer service orientation and skill working collaboratively with both internal and external stakeholders
- Possesses excellent oral and written communication skills
- Proven ability to prioritize, organize workload and meet deadlines
- Ability to work independently with minimum guidance and excellent self-initiative
- Excellent attendance is mandatory
Responsibilities
- Collaborates with pharmacy staff to purchase all medications and supplies for the pharmacy department. This includes telephone orders and electronically generating the order, as well as verification of purchase order details.
- Maintains current lists of supplier names, addresses and phone numbers, contacting and setting-up new vendors as required
- Monitors manufacturer back orders and allocations and regularly contacts company for updates. Identifies alternates vendors and procures medications in a timely manner to limit impact of shortages.
- Borrows and lends pharmaceutical drugs and supplies
- Collaborates with staff and other stakeholders to resolve purchase order discrepancies
- Arranges for transportation of medications and supplies as needed to ensure availability for pharmacy or when providing to other stakeholders
- Collaborates with Digital Solutions team and other stakeholders to support new product builds and maintains records
- Assists in annual physical inventory and perpetual inventory count
- Assists with other departmental activities as delegated by the Pharmacy Manager.
Wage Rate $27.70....$28.90....$30.11 (plus 14% in lieu of benefits)
