Subforeperson Mechanic

Public Works – Operations Support

1 Regular Full-Time Position

Compensation: $39.59 - $40.60 per hour (plus an additional $4.00 hourly premium)

Location and Work Mode: Onsite at 2 Copper Road, Brampton
Hours of Work: 40 hours per week

CUPE 966- Public works

The role**:**

Under general supervision of the Fleet Foreperson, you will schedule work and directs Mechanics in carrying out assigned tasks. The sub-foreperson also performs repairs and maintenance to regional vehicles and equipment in accordance with regional policies and procedures.

What you will do in this role**:**

  • As a working sub-foreperson, provide direct supervision on site to staff to ensure work is performed efficiently, safely, within the time allotted and in accordance with Regional, MTO and MOEE standards.
  • Ensure workforce is properly instructed and trained in the performance of their duties.
  • Take remedial action in the absence of the Foreperson and provide direction in his/her absence.
  • Co-ordinate outside garage work in conjunction with the Foreperson.
  • Diagnose and repair vehicles and equipment, performs scheduled preventative maintenance work and annual vehicle inspections.
  • Install, troubleshoot and repair specialized vehicle accessories and safety equipment and performs some welding and metal fabrication.
  • Order and receive replacement or repair parts and keeps stock supply area in neat and tidy condition.
  • Accurately complete forms report and inputs and retrieves information into Fleet Management System.
  • Investigate complaints, faults or problems; determine cause and offer recommendations where possible.
  • Execute duties in a tactful and courteous manner, maintain neat appearance and perform duties in a way that convey a positive image of the Region.
  • Report Health and Safety hazards.
  • Required to assume standby status and occasionally required to perform emergency roadside repairs.

What the role requires**:**

  • Minimum grade 12 education or equivalent.
  • Three years minimum work-related experience working with common shop equipment and diagnostic tools.
  • Must hold current Province of Ontario Motor Vehicle Licenses 310S and 310T.
  • Must be willing to obtain and maintain other required licences/certification as they become necessary.
  • Ozone Depletion Prevention (ODP), Ontario Drive Clean Emissions Inspector and/or repair certificate(s), “DZ” licence in good standing and Propane Fuel Tech are definite assets.
  • Capable of accurately completing required forms and reports and computer skills to navigate Fleet Maintenance database.
  • Supplies and uses own hand tools to carry out maintenance and repair activities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to develop and maintain positive working relationships with internal and external clients and staff.
  • Physically able to perform all duties and requirements of the job.
