About Sunshine Coast Health Centre

Nursing Homes and Residential Care Facilities
11-50

Sunshine Coast Health Centre uses a Meaning-Centered Treatment Model that integrates non-12 Step, research-based practices such as medical, psychiatric, psychosocial, and positive existential psychotherapy. We focus on addiction as a lack of personal meaning rather than a disease. Our focus on personal meaning means we appreciate our clients as:

  1. Whole Human Beings

We don't treat an addict or an addiction; we treat human beings. We do not believe that a person with an addiction can be reduced down to mere thoughts, feelings, or behaviours. We help our clients become motivated towards growth so they can overcome barriers and make personal transformation possible.

  1. The Authors of Their Lives

Our primary clinical effort is to help clients take control of their lives, regardless of circumstances or personal and social limitations.

  1. Different Than Their Pathologies

We recognize that pathologizing addictive behaviours reinforces the stigma of addiction and disrupts our relationship with clients. For this reason, we refuse to pathologize clients.

At Sunshine Coast Health Center, we have designed a therapeutic program based on key principles of Meaning-Centered Therapy. Through sharing our knowledge and experiences, we hope to build connections in ways that will continually transform our understanding of addiction and the delivery of addiction treatment.
