Our challenge We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Business Analyst with expertise in Master Data Management (MDM) and a strong understanding of Capital Markets to join our team. The ideal candidate will lead and support the design, implementation, and enhancement of enterprise MDM solutions, ensuring data consistency, integrity, and governance across trading, investment, and risk platforms. This role acts as a critical liaison between business and technology teams to ensure that data assets are effectively managed to support key business functions.
Additional Information*
The base salary for this position will vary based on geography and other factors. In accordance with law, the base salary for this role if filled within Mississauga, ON is CAD $130k – CAD $135k/year & benefits (see below).
The Role Responsibilities:
- Partner with business stakeholders across Front Office, Middle Office, and Risk/Compliance to gather and document MDM and data governance requirements.
- Lead workshops and working sessions with SMEs to analyze business processes and define master and reference data requirements across domains such as securities, clients, accounts, products, issuers, and counterparties.
- Define data quality rules, match/merge logic, survivorship criteria, and stewardship workflows to ensure golden record creation and maintenance.
- Support data lineage and metadata capture to ensure transparency, traceability, and auditability of critical data elements (CDEs).
- Translate business requirements into functional specifications and work closely with data engineering and MDM development teams to deliver solutions.
- Create and maintain business process models, data flow diagrams, and mapping documents for MDM implementations and integrations with downstream systems (e.g., trading platforms, risk systems, CRM).
- Work with data stewards and data owners to establish governance frameworks and monitor ongoing data quality and policy adherence.
- Support UAT strategy, test case development, and coordination of testing cycles with business users.
- Contribute to ongoing MDM strategy and roadmap planning to align with enterprise data initiatives and regulatory requirements (e.g., BCBS 239, MiFID II, SEC rules).
- Act as SME for data dependencies and flows across capital market functions and provide recommendations for data optimization.
Requirements:
- 7+ years of experience as a Business Analyst, including at least 3+ years in Master Data Management projects.
- Strong understanding of Capital Markets products (e.g., equities, fixed income, derivatives), trade lifecycle, and front-to-back office operations.
- Proven experience with MDM platforms
- Hands-on experience with data profiling, data mapping, lineage, and governance tools (e.g., Collibra, Alation).
- Familiarity with regulatory compliance and reporting frameworks impacting data management in financial services.
- Strong SQL/data analysis skills and the ability to work with large datasets for validation and reconciliation.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to operate independently and lead cross-functional initiatives in a dynamic environment.
- Experience with agile delivery methodologies (Scrum, SAFe).
- Knowledge of cloud-based data architecture (e.g., AWS, Azure, Snowflake) is a plus.
- Understanding of data mesh or data fabric concepts.
Preferred, but not required:
- Detail-oriented, ability to turn deliverables around quickly with a high degree of accuracy
- Strong analytical skills, ability to interpret business requirements and produce functional and technical design documents.
- Good time management skills – Ability to prioritize and multi-task, handling multiple efforts at once.
- Strong desire to understand and learn domain.
- Experience in a financial services/banking industry
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment; to be flexible and learn quickly.
- Ability to multi-task with attention to detail/ prioritize tasks.
