About the role
As the Chief Accounting Officer for Canada, you will be the accounting authority in the country, overseeing all accounting, financial compliance, and internal control matters across Canadian operations. You will work in close collaboration with the Canadian Chief Financial Officer and the global accounting team to ensure accurate financial reporting, adherence to international and local accounting standards, and continuous improvement of accounting processes. You’ll also be a key partner in transformation initiatives, team leadership, and regulatory compliance.
What You’ll Be Doing
Accounting and Financial Compliance
- Oversee the preparation of statutory financial statements and tax filings across all Canadian entities
- Ensure alignment with international accounting standards (IFRS) and internal financial principles
- Manage financial reporting processes, monthly closings, and reconciliations
- Conduct risk analysis and ensure appropriate financial provisions are in place
- Maintain relationships with auditors, regulatory bodies, and tax authorities
Internal Control & Process Optimization
- Ensure compliance with internal control policies and drive improvements across accounting processes
- Define and maintain clear documentation of workflows, approval processes, and financial procedures
- Monitor legislative and tax regulation changes and update internal stakeholders accordingly
- Partner with the transformation office to improve tools and systems supporting accounting operations
Leadership & Collaboration
- Lead and develop a high-performing team of accounting professionals within Canada
- Foster close collaboration with operational finance and the global accounting community
- Promote a culture of accountability, agility, and continuous improvement
- Support special projects such as acquisitions, carve-outs, or legal entity reorganizations

- Proven ability to lead and develop finance teams in a complex, matrixed environment
- Strategic thinker with a strong operational focus and attention to detail
- Clear communicator able to translate complex financial topics into actionable insights
- Comfortable navigating change and ambiguity; demonstrates resilience and pragmatism
- Collaborative mindset with the ability to influence cross-functional teams
Technical & Functional Skills
- Professional accounting designation (e.g., CPA or equivalent)
- Deep understanding of international and Canadian accounting and tax standards
- Strong grasp of financial systems and digital tools used in large finance organizations
- Experience in driving transformation and optimizing end-to-end accounting processes
- Solid background in internal controls and statutory compliance
Nice to Have
- Experience working in a global or multinational company
- Background in process reengineering or finance transformation projects
- Familiarity with both statutory and management reporting environments
- Knowledge of digital finance tools or systems implementation
