About the role

Job Title: Community Development Worker
Term: Up to 35 hours/week for 8 weeks (July 7th, 2025 to August 30, 2025)

Funding: This position is funded by Canada Summer Jobs, which requires applicants to be between 15 and 30 years old at the start of employment, and to be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or someone to whom refugee status has been granted/conferred.

Position Summary: The Urban Alliance on Race Relations (UARR) is hiring five Community Development Workers to support youth-focused community engagement and outreach programs during the summer. This role will engage diverse youth populations and play a vital role in promoting UARR’s youth leadership initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

Community Outreach and Engagement

  • Develop and implement outreach strategies to promote UARR’s fellowship and youth leadership programs across Scarborough and surrounding areas.
  • Actively engage stakeholders and community organizations in support of youth initiatives.
  • Recruit and train youth to take on leadership roles during the summer program

Program Support

  • Collaborate with university student groups (including University of Toronto Scarborough) and local organizations to strengthen participation in UARR programs.
  • Support the implementation of community engagement, communications, training, and event coordination activities.

Fundraising and Research

  • Contribute to developing fundraising strategies to sustain youth leadership initiatives.
  • Support policy and research efforts related to barriers faced by youth and the support systems available to them.

General Administration

  • Assist with day-to-day program activities and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, and outreach skills.
  • Previous experience working or volunteering in youth-focused or community programs.
  • Awareness of issues affecting racialized youth and familiarity with local community assets.
  • Knowledge and application of anti-racism and anti-oppression principles.
  • Strong communication and social media skills.
  • Ability to speak a second language relevant to the communities served is considered an asset.

Compensation: $18.00/hour

The Urban Alliance on Race Relations is a non-profit charitable organization that strives to address emerging issues related to diversity, equity and inclusion. The Urban Alliance was formed in 1975 by a group of concerned Toronto citizens in response to hate-motivated violence targeting various racialized communities.

The Urban Alliance works primarily and proactively with the community, public and private sectors to provide educational programs and research, which are critical in addressing racism in society. We are a small organization with very limited resources. Some of the key areas of our organization's participation include:
