The West Vancouver Memorial Library currently has an opening for a casual Librarian I to work on-call in the Customer and Community Experience Department. Reporting to a Supervisor of Customer and Community Experience Department, the successful candidate will be an integral member of the team responsible for providing information service in a very busy public library. Duties will include, but are not limited to:
- Reference and readers’ advisory services
- Programming for newcomers, adults and seniors
- Using technologies to meet a variety of information needs, including e-book and e-audio book access
- Assisting with collection development and creating displays to highlight collections
- Promoting the library through community liaisons, displays, tours and presentations to groups both inside
- and outside the library and performing other related duties, as required
The successful candidates will possess: a Master’s Degree in library and information science from an
accredited school, strong customer service skills; superior communication and interpersonal skills; a passion for literature and culture; reference and readers’ advisory skills, experience with e-readers, tablets and mobile applications; the ability to work well as part of a team; and demonstrated ability to master information sources thoroughly and quickly.

Starting Rate of Pay: $40.13 per hour plus 14% in lieu of benefits
(This position has a pay structure with five steps which increase after certain
hours.)

Located in the beautiful oceanside community of West Vancouver, the West Vancouver Memorial Library prides itself in enriching lives. Since its opening in 1950, it has flourished and grown.
The Library currently serves a population of 46,000, has a collection of ~327,000 volumes (including non-print), a circulation rate of 23 per capita (which is one of the highest in Canada.
In addition to a large multilingual and multi-format collection, the Library offers innovative events and programs for patrons of all ages, including an immensely popular Friday night concerts series, a Philosopher's Cafe, Genealogy Workshops, Youth Outreach Programs, Home Services Programs, and various collaborative ventures with community partners.
