Siloam Mission is a Christian-based non-profit service organization for Manitobans who have experienced homelessness and who struggle with mental health issues, physical and cognitive disabilities, addictions, or trauma. Founded in 1987, the mission provides emergency shelter, meals and clothing, supportive housing, and a variety of healing, support, and recovery services to help people transform their own lives and reach their full potential.

JOB SUMMARY

This position is responsible for assisting the Food services Supervisor to ensuring that Siloam Mission efficiently fulfills its mandate to offer nutritional meals to the residents of the Madison while in compliance with any and all applicable food preparation and serving regulations, as well as the safety and cleanliness standards set by the City of Winnipeg Health Authority

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist with serving meals on time;
  • Preform cleaning duties including washing, and return dishes to the proper place, clean and sanitize all food contact surfaces.
  • Wash all pots and pans, return to them to the proper place.
  • Manually clean the dish machine nightly, clean sinks, and return all items to proper place.
  • Wash all tables and chairs, sweep and mop dining room floor
  • Work with team members and volunteers in the overall operation of the kitchen;
  • Provide direction and assign responsibilities to volunteers;
  • Perform other tasks that may be assigned by the Supervisor;

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Current Food Handlers Certificate, or able to obtain;
  • Experience is an asset but not required;

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/BEHAVIORS

  • Good organizational skills and ability to adapt to changes in the environment;
  • Ability to effectively communicate with managers, residents, and other employees;
  • Ability to accurately follow instructions both written and verbal from Supervisor, volunteers and other employees;
  • Knowledge of working with individuals, and effectively communicate to build relationships;

RELATIONSHIP

  • Daily interaction with residents, staff and volunteers;
  • Attend staff meetings when available;

WORKING CONDITION

  • Hours of work: Casual (4:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.; 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.)
  • Location: 210 Evanson Street
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time;
  • Working with food allergens;
  • Ability to lift and carry weight up to 50 lbs.;
  • Ability to work in a wide variety of temperature ranges;
  • Will need to clean (sweep, mop, disinfect, etc.) work areas as needed;
  • Ability to work with cleaning chemicals;
  • Hazardous conditions could potentially include unpredictable or risky behaviours from community members;
  • Food service area- Hair nets (provided) proper comfortable walking shoes must be worn at all times.

WORKPLACE HEALTH AND SAFETY

The incumbent contributes to making the organization safe for clients and staff and recognizes the importance of reporting unsafe situations and participating in follow up reviews as a learning opportunity.

  • Provides a safe environment by ensuring adherences to Workplace Safety and Health
  • Regulations and Policies, Infection Control Guidelines, WHMIS and Safe Work Procedures. Immediately investigates and recommends corrective action on any unsafe acts, work conditions, incidents, near misses, injuries or illnesses.
  • Demonstrates understanding of role and responsibilities in fire prevention and disaster preparedness and participates in safety and health training programs including the facility’s Fire, Disaster and Evacuation Plan.
  • Supports an environment which avoids, prevents and corrects all activities or actions which may result in an adverse outcome in the delivery of services. Community Member safety is a standing item for all individual and departmental meetings.

Wage: $16.20 - $21.68
