The Ministry of Justice and Attorney General is seeking a dynamic leader with strong interpersonal, communication and financial management skills to be the Assistant Director, Accounting and Public Reporting. This position reports to the Director, Accounting and Public Reporting.
Using strong conceptual and collaborative problem-solving and relationship-building skills, you will facilitate and negotiate solutions to complex issues among a diverse range of individuals. You will have responsibility for assessing the knowledge needs of staff engaged in the accounting process and will proactively develop and deliver effective formal and informal training as required. This will include change management and communication needs during special projects and business improvement processes.
The successful candidate will require knowledge of government, financial, budgetary and legislative processes and policies, be results-oriented and be able to plan the work for the unit. You will oversee the primary accounting functions and processes for the ministry, including monthly, quarterly and year-end processing. Our candidate of choice will develop and implement policies and procedures to improve accounting procedures while ensuring compliance with relevant Acts, financial and government controls. The successful candidate will have extensive and comprehensive knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP and PSAB).
Typically, knowledge would be obtained through the completion of an undergraduate degree in Commerce or Business Administration combined with an accounting designation and several years of progressively responsible job-related experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered.
