About the role

Job Description The Winnipeg Regional Health Authority is inviting applications for the position of Site Medical Director for Emergency Medicine at the Grace Hospital.

This position has a dual reporting structure. Reporting to the Regional Medical Specialty Lead, Emergency, the incumbent will be responsible for overall planning and coordination of emergency medicine service delivery within the Authority. Where appropriate, the incumbent will consult and coordinate clinical activity with the Provincial Specialty Lead, Emergency. For hospital and site management responsibilities, the incumbent will report to the Hospital CMO or designate.

Primary Role

  • To assist the Regional Medical Specialty Lead, Emergency (the “Lead”) in planning and coordinating a system-wide network.
  • To be the medical leader of the Emergency Department at the Hospital to ensure effective and efficient delivery of quality care.

Qualifications

  • Medical degree from a recognized university
  • Licensed with the College of Physicians & Surgeons of Manitoba (CPSM)
  • Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada (Emergency Medicine) or Certificant of College of Family Physicians of Canada (Emergency Medicine) or ABEM (American Board of Emergency Medicine) or MD

Duties

  • Ensures that the WRHA Hospital Medical Staff By-law and Rules and Regulations are observed by Site members.
  • Keeps the members of the Site informed as to WRHA policies, program objectives, and other relevant matters.
  • Supports the Hospital Mission, Vision and Values Statement
  • Attends/Chairs departmental meetings of the emergency medicine physicians
  • Works with the Site emergency physician business group in physician recruitment, retention, performance management and staffing of shifts
  • Develops linkages between Emergency Medicine and other stakeholders including but not limited to:
  • Other related clinical programs of the Site, agencies, partners
  • Paramedical services
  • Community agencies and programs
  • Performs regular performance evaluations of medical staff
  • Collaborates with other members of the Emergency Department team to develop budgets and plans.
  • Reviews and responds to feedback, complaints and concerns arising out of patient care in a timely way
  • Works with regional and Site representatives from patient safety, consulting programs, patient relations and Site executive to ensure continuous quality improvement.
  • Initiates development of new program proposals that remain consistent with the strategic plan of the WRHA.
  • Establishes guidelines for service loads, patient management information systems, quality assurance policies and procedures.
  • Works with the WRHA to establish clinical standards common to all hospitals
  • Ensures that standards of practice and emergency medical care is safe, efficient and collaborative
  • Ensures that emergency medicine physicians fulfil the educational responsibilities as assigned to the Site by the Department of Emergency Medicine in connection with PGME, UGME and allied healthcare staff.
  • Others duties as assigned
