Job Overview

The Purchaser plays a key role in supporting the procurement of direct goods and services essential to our operations. Reporting to the Strategic Sourcing Manager, this position involves supplier engagement, product category analysis, market research, negotiating small contracts, tracking deliveries, and monitoring long-term projects. The ideal candidate will bring purchasing experience in the food processing industry, with strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills. This is full-time on-site role.

Key Responsibilities

Supplier Management

  • Maintain and analyze supplier terms, pricing, and offers—building and updating our supplier and product database (especially for raw materials and resale products).
  • Lead smaller sourcing initiatives and projects under the guidance of the Strategic Sourcing Manager.
  • Collect, verify, and file supplier certifications, product specifications, compliance statements, and allergen documentation in both the document repository and ERP system.
  • Develop and sustain strong supplier relationships to ensure product quality, reliability, and service levels.

Procurement

  • Prepare and process purchase orders and contracts in alignment with company policies and sales forecasts under the direction of the Strategic Procurement Manager.
  • Collaborate with Quality Control to ensure orders meet company quality standards and are fit for their intended purpose; gather visual and written documentation as required.
  • Gather forecasts from Sales, support Production with scheduling requirements, and coordinate timely purchasing activities.
  • Track and monitor purchase orders, proactively manage delivery timelines, and work with Logistics to resolve issues. Keep internal stakeholders updated on delivery status and potential disruptions.

Cost Management

  • Research and analyze market trends, pricing, and supplier offers to support informed procurement decisions.
  • Contribute to data gathering and analytics initiatives that enhance procurement reporting and tools.
  • Update replacement cost inputs for Sales and Finance, and maintain current pricing records for raw and finished products.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities and present recommendations to the Strategic Sourcing Manager.
  • Reconcile inbound shipment invoices against purchase orders and warehouse receipts; manage discrepancies with suppliers.

Quality Assurance

  • Ensure all purchased goods comply with company quality standards and relevant regulatory requirements.
  • Manage supplier non-conformances, coordinate purchase return orders, inventory adjustments, and documentation of returns, disposals, and related charges.

Collaboration

  • Work closely with Logistics, Sales, Finance, Production, and Quality Control teams to align procurement activities with company objectives.
  • Participate in cross-functional projects aimed at improving procurement processes and driving continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
  • 2–5 years of purchasing experience, ideally within the food processing or manufacturing industry.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and negotiation skills.
  • Proficiency with ERP systems and the Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Understanding of industry regulations, food safety standards, and supplier quality requirements.

Although raspberries, cranberries, and blueberries make up the core of the fruit products grown in the Fraser Valley, it is also home to strawberries, blackberries, red/black currants, rhubarb and several other crops. Annually over 300 million pounds (136,000 metric tons) of berries are grown in the Fraser Valley and surrounding area. Extending a few hours east to the Okanagan region, Pacific Coast Fruit Products also collects fresh cherries, apples and pears for processing.

Originally built as a frozen berry plant, Pacific Coast Fruit Products has since evolved over the years and now processes high quality fruit juice concentrate, Not From Concentrate (NFC) juice, purees, and puree concentrates for the food, beverage, and nutraceutical industries. Processing occurs year round with operations working 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to ensure products are delivered in a timely manner. Conveniently situated next to the US border, the rail service and only an hour from Vancouver port provides both easy and cost effective transport to both domestic and international markets.
