MINE MAINTENANCE ENGINEER Reporting to the Mine Maintenance Superintendent, the Mine Maintenance Engineer will have an overarching scope that goes beyond the traditional asset reliability function. It is an integrated role that will touch the entire asset cycle from planning, reliability, maintenance strategy, financial analysis and management system perspective, while working with the latest and greatest technology for mining assets.

Key Responsibilities Area 1:

Develop work management systems and business intelligence.

  • Develop standard work procedures to optimize resource utilization and improve safety.
  • Use the standard work management process to drive successful facilitation and implementation.
  • Participate in the maintenance planning and scheduling to minimize risk and maximize value generation.
  • Professionally and systematically define, develop, monitor and optimize asset maintenance strategies.
  • Participate in developing new maintenance work processes, RACI matrix and procedures.
  • Develop and track key performance indicators for reliability, planning, scheduling, and execution.
  • Develop business intelligence reports to highlight top ten business opportunities for mine maintenance using a variety of software’s such as power of PI, Oracle, Mine-Star, etc.

Area 2 Health & Safety and Risk Management.

  • Participate in the development of maintenance procedures in collaboration with the Health & Safety Team.
  • Participate in the development of the HSE risk register.
  • Provide input to a risk management plan and develop mitigation plans.

Area 3 Life Cycle Asset Management and Reliability.

  • Develop life cycle cost models for Mobile equipment.
  • Oversee the root cause analysis performed by OEM’s and other vendors.
  • Participate in the final check-out of new installations, which includes factory and site acceptance testing to ensure adherence to functional specifications.
  • Work with equipment manufacturers and other third-party parts and service providers to identify opportunities to improve asset reliability.
  • Investigate new products, materials, and processes to improve equipment reliability.
  • Apply value analysis to repair/replace, repair/redesign and make/buy decisions.
  • Carry out a review of the spare.
  • Oversee a variety of predictive maintenance data bases such as Oil Analysis, Ultrasound, and Infra-etc.

Area 4 Reporting, budgeting, and cost control.

  • Work in conjunction with the mine maintenance team to develop maintenance budget.
  • Provide recommendations on the Life of Fleet strategy and budget.
  • Analyze performance and create cost reports to keep on or under projected budget limits.
  • Provide forecasts of maintenance resources and personnel requirements.
  • Produce and provide analysis of KPI data regarding the overall work management process.
  • Provide technical as well as financial analysis of testing and evaluation of new equipment, materials, and processes.
  • Establish justification for small to medium sized projects to improve mining equipment reliability.

Area 5 Engineering and Project Management.

  • Lead the continuous improvement initiatives in different areas such as; Contamination control, oil filtration, lubrication improvements, improving oil life, reducing waste, etc.
  • Provide project management support for special projects, capital improvements, and other unique assignments as required.
  • Exploring tooling options to improve reliability, availability, and maintainability.
  • Develop engineering solutions to repetitive failures and all other problems that adversely affect mobile equipment operations.
  • Work with Operations to perform analyses of assets including utilization, OEE, and life cycle, and other parameters that define operating condition, reliability, and cost
  • Provide technical support to production, maintenance management and technical personnel.

Job Qualifications Minimum Requirements and Nice To Haves Minimum Qualifications, Formal Education, Certifications Or Equivalents

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
  • P. Eng certification in one Canadian province or being able to get certified.

Work experience - Nature & Length

  • 5+ years’ experience in the mining industry.
  • Experience in asset reliability.

Additional Qualifications - Competency Requirements

  • Experience in Mobile Maintenance is an asset.
  • Good knowledge of PowerBI is an important asset.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Exposure to project management techniques.
  • Exposure to equipment condition monitoring.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills.
  • Ability to prepare accurate records and reports.
  • Ability to identify, analyze and resolve problems.
  • Ability to communicate well, both orally and in writing.
  • Bilingual French/English is an asset.
  • Knowledge of Ontario mining act and regulations.
  • Familiarity with Occupational Health and Safety Programs.
