The Opportunity
The City of St. Albert is seeking to hire a Mail/Messenger Clerk join the Financial & Strategic Services Department. Reporting to the Manager of Purchasing Services, the successful candidate will support the provision of efficient, timely mail and messenger service to all City departments.
Key responsibilities include:
Mail Services

Collecting and processing of all City mail, from the post office to appropriate recipients.

Ensuring that regular maintenance on the mailing equipment and delivery vehicle is performed.

Representing the image and service delivery of the entire Purchasing Services branch.
Courier Services

Providing light courier services throughout City departments to ensure that documents/communications are delivered and received in a timely manner.

Differentiating ‘regular’ and ‘promotional’ mail and charging to the correct cost center.
Administration and Support
- Maintaining records and report statistics for mail volumes, costs and equipment maintenance history.
- Monitoring the inventory of City letterhead and envelopes and distributing to City departments.
- Monitoring the amount of postage remaining gin the processing equipment and ensuring sufficient postage is always available.
- Acting as the main contact for communications with the Canada Post and the mailing equipment vendors.
Qualifications
- Completion of a High School Diploma combined with experience with mailing equipment and postal regulations is required.
- Detailed knowledge of the operation of postal equipment and a high-level understanding of Canadian postal regulations.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills with the ability to prioritize workloads efficiently.
- Experience in a municipal government setting and understanding of mail delivery requirements in different departments is an asset.
- Knowledge of the layout of St. Albert in order to manage pickups/deliveries in an efficient manner is desirable.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint and Teams.
- Valid Class 5 Drivers License and clear drivers abstract showing fewer than 5 demerits is required.
Hours of Work
Monday, Wednesday, and Friday 9:00 am – 3:15 pm.
TERM
This is a 6-month temporary position from June to December 2025, with a possibility of extension.
Compensation
$22.20 - $26.52 per hour.
This position is not eligible for benefits.
