Our team is looking for a compassionate part-time (0.8 FTE) palliative care physician to support a 1-year Parental Leave located in Abbotsford, BC. This position would commence in November 2024. This is an exciting opportunity, where you will work alongside other palliative care physicians and our multidisciplinary team to provide Most Responsible Provider (MRP) coverage in our Palliative Complex Care Unit (PCCU) and Holmberg House; and consultation services to acute care and community-based patients.

Throughout the Fraser Health Authority we provide integrated, regional, comprehensive palliative care services in a number of settings including 30 Palliative Complex Care Unit (PCCU) beds; consult services in 12 acute care sites as well as in the community and other settings; and support to 126 hospice beds. Additionally, we provide under-graduate and post-graduate teaching in affiliation with the Division of Palliative Care at the University of British Columbia.

Qualifications:

  • Eligibility for medical licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia is required.
  • Certification from either the College of Family Physicians of Canada or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. Preference will be provided to individuals who have completed additional training in Palliative Medicine, from either stream outlined below:
    • One-year enhanced skills residency and acquired the Certificate of Added Competence (CAC) through the College of Family Physicians of Canada.
    • Two year Royal College subspecialty in Palliative Medicine.

Abbotsford Regional Hospital and Cancer Centre is a 280 bed, University of British Columbia affiliated hospital offering medical, surgical, obstetrics, inpatient pediatrics, renal, cardiology, tertiary palliative care, helipad, as well as 24/7 emergency services with nearly 80,000 visits annually.

Emergency Department Renovation and Redesign Project

The hospital recently underwent a renovation and redesign of its Emergency Department that now includes a dedicated area for mental health and substance use care, a new nursing substation, and a relocated ambulance bay, among other features, to help improve patient flow and experience.
