About the role

Your Opportunity:

SkyPointe II Complex Mental Health Rehabilitation Program is a unique 32 bed Addiction and Mental Health Program located in the community of Skyview in Calgary. You will have the opportunity to work with a group of dynamic multidisciplinary professionals supporting clients in their rehabilitation and recovery journey. Our care team includes Recovery Alberta nursing, social work, occupational therapy, recreational therapy, outreach workers, behavioral specialist, protective services, physicians, and collaboration with our community partner AgeCare. The facility offers craft, library, group, sensory rooms, and fitness areas to support rehabilitation goals.

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) under the supervision of the RN/RPN works to full scope as a member of the health care team, providing a range of services with review, consultation and evaluation from the Program Manager. The LPN assists with the delivery of holistic, comprehensive care to meet the needs of clients within Patient Family Centered Care, Recovery, Trauma Informed and Psychosocial models of care. You will work with a variety of clients with complex mental health and concurrent disorders. Supporting residents to maintain psychiatric stability and build the skills to reintegrate into the community. LPN's provide excellence in nursing assessment, treatment planning, implementation, and evaluation of care developing strong skills in mental status assessment, de-escalation, and conflict resolution. The successful candidate will competently perform physical and mental health assessments, treatment, medication provision, side effect monitoring, interventions, and provide individual and group psychosocial interventions.

The LPN may be required to deal with clients who are unpredictable, at times can become aggressive, and must be able to adequately de-escalate and respond appropriately.

You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program.

Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA).

Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Minimum 12 months within the last two years of nursing experience in an acute care or community mental health setting required. Understanding of the DSM-5 with demonstrated knowledge of mental health diagnosis, symptomatology and treatment modalities/interventions. Knowledge in mental health and intervention skills. Understanding of Alberta Mental Health Act - Community Treatment Orders and other governing standards/ legislation for practice. Experience in group facilitation. Able to lift 20 lbs., climb 3 flights of stairs and ambulate quickly. Experience with complex populations including the ability to work with potentially aggressive clients. Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training (NVCI) certification required. This position has transitioned to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. Preferred Qualifications:
