Software Engineer (IBMi AS400)

Our global client is seeking an experienced IBMi (AS400) engineer to deliver high-quality software and technical solutions in a Scrum Agile environment. This hands-on role will involve working alongside product owners, scrum masters, business analysts, stakeholders, and project managers to understand requirements, develop technical designs, and implement scalable solutions that adhere to industry standards.

About the Role

You will support multiple key initiatives involving supplier integration, product functionality enhancements, and financial processing solutions. This role requires strong expertise in AS400 development, data integration, and business process optimization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop high-availability, scalable solutions on IBMi.
  • Support ongoing maintenance, enhancements, and system upgrades .
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with business users, project managers, and developers to deliver optimal solutions.
  • Develop and execute unit tests to ensure compliance with business requirements.
  • Adhere to best practices like Test-Driven Development (TDD), secure coding, and architecture standards .
  • Work with APIs and stored procedures to enable integration with web-based systems.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Minimum 3-5 years of IBMi development experience (AS400, RPG, CL, DB2, ILE, SQL).
  • Experience in B2B and EDI document processing is an asset.
  • Strong understanding of financial processes, cost management, and pricing structures beneficial.
  • Experience with Scrum Agile methodology and participation in sprint planning, stand-ups, and retrospectives.
  • Familiarity with system integration, APIs, and store procedures for high-volume processing.
  • Proficiency in development tools such as ROBOT, ServiceNow, Aldon (change/version control), Jira/Confluence, and Microsoft 365 .
  • Strong problem-solving, collaboration, and leadership skills .

Bonus Skills

  • Experience with additional development languages or scripting .
  • Supply Chain – Knowledge of distribution and warehouse environments is a plus.
  • Distribution Environments – Background in logistics and product flow management.
  • Ability to manage technical debt and resolve defects proactively .
