As NAIT continues to grow its student body and lead the way in hands-on learning, we are recruiting skilled and passionate individuals to help inspire and train current and future power engineers and become part of Canada’s leading polytechnic.

The Power Engineering Technology program is designed to prepare students for careers in industrial, government and commercial establishments. The Power Engineering Technology program has an opening for a full-time continuous instructor. The successful candidate will be an energetic and empathetic leader of students with a commitment to student motivation and achievement utilizing their outstanding communication, interpersonal and organizational skills. Experience delivering adult education will be a strong asset. Proficiency with various computer programs and systems as well as the ability to work both independently and as part of a team will be critical to success. The successful candidate will have excellent operating field experience who is committed to champion student success through academic excellence. Responsibilities include curriculum development and delivery, evaluation and maintenance of student progress and records as well as student support and program operational activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and present learning outcomes and activities in classroom and laboratory settings

  • Organizing and supervising practical assignments

  • Facilitate the learning process by utilizing instructional strategies that ensure efficient and effective delivery of course materials.

  • Manage instructional delivery and set the tone and climate for a safe and effective learning environment

  • Evaluate the learning process and provide meaningful feedback to students

  • Respond to student issues

  • Utilize appropriate educational technology for presentations, communications, and program promotions

  • Maintain professional and ethical relationships with students and colleagues

  • Actively participate in the strategies of NAIT’s Academic Model as identified by the institute

  • Utilize regular student feedback to identify and implement instructional improvement

  • Improve the quality of instruction through professional development activities

  • Participate in course reviews, program reviews and curriculum development

  • Maintain contact with relevant industries

  • Operate boilers and related auxiliary equipment up to 7 hours a day

Qualifications:

  • Valid ABSA certificate – Second Class or First-Class Power Engineer
  • Minimum eight years of related experience in the field is required
  • Post-secondary teaching and/or leadership experience is considered an asset

Applicants with education credentials earned outside of Canada should have their credentials evaluated by World Education Services or the International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS).

Candidates selected for an interview will be required to do a teaching demonstration (5-8 minutes) on any topic covered in the program that showcases your passion, creativity and innovation. Link to Power Engineering Technology Program

Remuneration: Will be commensurate with education and experience, plus 18.5% in lieu of statutory holidays and vacation (Instructor salary grid $34.48 - $59.98 per hour, however, starting hourly wage for a new hire averages between $41.76 – 45.41 per hour based on education and experience. (Classification – Instructor).

This position is covered by the NAIT Academic Staff Association (NASA) Collective Agreement
