Duties
- Plan, organize, and manage the procurement of ferrous and non-ferrous scrap metal in accordance with company goals and market conditions.
- Develop and implement purchasing strategies, procedures, and controls tailored to the scrap metal sector.
- Evaluate and select reliable scrap metal vendors and recycling partners based on pricing, material quality, logistics, and compliance with environmental standards.
- Monitor metal markets and commodity trends to make cost-effective buying decisions and mitigate pricing risks.
- Negotiate contracts and long-term supply agreements with scrap yards, demolition contractors, and industrial suppliers.
- Collaborate with operations and logistics teams to ensure timely delivery, safe handling, and proper storage of materials.
- Analyze and review supplier performance, material quality, and service levels; address non-conformance issues and disputes.
- Prepare reports and forecasts on scrap metal inventory levels, cost analysis, and purchasing trends.
- Supervise, train, and evaluate purchasing staff, fostering continuous improvement and professional development.
- Manage the department’s budget, ensuring alignment with financial targets and operational efficiency goals.
- Support sustainability initiatives by sourcing eco-friendly and recycled materials when possible.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in purchasing or procurement roles, preferably in a Warehousing or production environment.
- Strong knowledge of supply chain processes and vendor management practices.
- Excellent negotiation skills with a track record of achieving favorable outcomes.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess market trends and pricing strategies.
- Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
- A degree in business administration, supply chain management, or a related field is preferred.
