We’re looking for a Safety & Asset Protection Advisor
to join our
Oriented Strand Board (OSB) mill located in High Prairie, Alberta . Our mill has undergone an exciting major rebuild and modernization including the commissioning of a new continuous press which will makes us the most modern mill in North America.
Our ideal candidate has the following qualifications:
- An OHS Certificate or Diploma .
- 3-5 years in a similar role , or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Experience working in a Manufacturing or Forestry environment considered a strong asset.
- Strong problem solving and risk management skills.
- Extensive knowledge of safety protocols : Strong understanding of industry safety standards, regulations and best practices.
- Working knowledge of Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Regulations and Workers Compensation Act .
- Ability to apply Health and Safety Management System concepts and approaches.
- Hands-on Safety Leadership approach: A proactive, approachable leader who actively engages with the team to ensure safety practices are followed at all levels.
- Intermediate knowledge with Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point.

In this role you will:
- Report to the Plant Manager and leverage your effective communications and technical skills to coach and lead across all roles within the mill.
- Be instrumental in cultivating and promoting a culture of safety , safeguarding our employees and our assets.
- Support and advise Supervisors and Superintendents in managing day-to-day equipment processes, specific safety risks and incident investigations .
- Use your OH&S knowledge to support safety initiatives, investigations, joint health and safety committees , safety programs, emergency response and fire safety plans.
- Conduct new hire safety orientations .
- Advise Plant Manager on inspections , changes (planned or proposed) to regulations, as well as any other occupational health and safety issues which pose a risk to the business Unit.
- Identify opportunities to engage our workforce and help drive the business forward by encouraging team members to live and breathe our safety programs and work procedures.
- Advise on the development, management, and administration of divisional safety program elements, emergency response plan, fire safety plan.
- Ensure that the business units meet or exceed compliance with all regulatory requirements of the jurisdiction in which they operate.
- In conjunction with the Plant Manager, play an active role in the development and delivery of training and continuous improvement processes related to occupational health and safety.
- Coordinate all safety related training and certifications.
- Facilitate safety audits and COR audits .
- Be the site administrator of the safety reporting program (CorePoint).

- You'll earn an additional northern allowance on top of your base pay.
