About the role
Scope:
As the HR Generalist, you will support all HR activities at our only Canadian Facility. You will be the first point of contact for all employees regarding employment matters and partner with the onsite supervisory and management team, as well as corporate centers of excellence to achieve business objectives. There is potential for this contract to be extended, or become permanent.
Recruitment & Onboarding:
- Coordinate timely end-to-end recruitment with hiring managers, and Talent Acquisition teams, to fill hourly and salaried roles, ensuring compliance with applicable policies, regulations and laws.
- Schedule and lead onboarding and orientation
- Overseeing agency associate program, fill rates, reconciliation of billing, labour reports, etc.
Employee & Labour Relations:
- Act as first point of contact for employee questions and concerns, escalating as needed.
- Partner with HR Manager and supervisors to address employee relations concerns.
- Foster and maintain positive relationships across all shifts
- Coach and counsel supervisors and managers regarding appropriate discipline in accordance with CBA and ESA and track/document results.
- Support labour discussions and arbitrations as needed
Compensation & Benefits:
- Support payroll inputs through verification of time entry accuracy, and manual adjustments.
- Educated team members on pension and benefits offerings (vacation, extended health care, EAP, etc.)
- Create a robust employee relations program that includes, but not limited to: performance counseling, and coaching the leadership team(s) on appropriate dissemination of company policies.
- Oversee leave management program (STD/LTD, maternity/parental etc.) ensuring required documentation is received and submitted in a timely manner.
- HRIS Systems & Reporting:
- Timely and accurate maintenance of HRIS records (Ceridian Dayforce)
- Create and distribute reports turnover, absenteeism, overtime worked, seniority, eligibility to work and other key metrics
- Maintain physical employment and training files
Other Duties & Projects:
- Supporting external/3rd party audits
- Supporting Learning and Development programs
- Overseeing hourly staffing process by recruiting, coordinating interviews, extending offers of employment, processing new hire paperwork and coordinating new hire orientation and onboarding of all new hires
- Support company-wide, and site-specific wellness and engagement activities
- Vendor management (office supplies, uniform program, etc.)
Education:
- Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree with a focus on Human Resources Management
- CHRP in progress preferred
Experience & Abilities Requirements:
- 2 or more years of HR Generalist experience required (Union, production/manufacturing environment experience is preferred.)
- Must have understanding of Ontario Employment Standards and its application (knowledge of OHSA, OHRC, and OLRA is an asset)
- Experience in administering benefit program at a local level including Health, disability, workers compensation and return to work programs.
- Knowledge and experience HRIS systems, Time and Attendance System, MS Office (Word/Excel/Power Point) and Ceridian Dayforce is preferred
Skilled in:
- Strong interpersonal skills with a positive attitude
- Intermediate to advance computer skills (MS Office, ERP, HRIS, etc.)
- Excellent verbal and written English communication skills
Ability to:
- Organize and prioritize multiple tasks
- Adapt to changing priorities
- Work closely with others in a cross-functional team atmosphere.
- Work off shift hours when needed to support the bakery needs.
- Explain policy, CBA terms, or legislation across all levels of the business
Work Environment:
- Work is primarily done in an office setting.
- Must be willing to visit night shifts to ensure positive employee relations across departments and shifts occur
- Will frequent production environment which includes exposure to noise, dust, moving machinery, fork lifts, food allergens, and fluctuations in temperature.
Physical Requirements:
- Sitting at a work station for extended periods of time
- Stand, walk, climb stairs on an infrequent basis
- Must be able to lift 20 pounds on an infrequent basis
The pay range for this full-time, salaried position is $60,0000 - $70,000/year. Individual base pay depends on work location and additional factors such as experience, job-related skills, and relevant education or training. The position is eligible for a discretionary annual incentive based on company and individual performance.
