Position Summary:

We are seeking a Payroll Accounting Manager who brings a blend of strong technical payroll expertise, accounting acumen and leadership capability to thrive in a fast-paced, high growth environment. Reporting directly to the Director of Payroll, this individual will serve as an expert supporting company-wide payroll accounting operations, ensuring financial accuracy, regulatory compliance, and seamless collaboration across functions. The ideal candidate will have a proven ability to work independently, prioritize effectively, and operate with a high degree of precision in an environment that demands adaptability, operational excellence, and cross-functional collaboration.

In addition to core responsibilities, the Payroll Accounting Manager will provide high-level support to the Finance and HR teams, contribute to M&A integration initiatives, lead audit-related activities, and serve as a strategic partner to the Director of Payroll, assisting with critical decision-making and operational execution at scale.

What you will be doing:

Payroll Accounting & Reporting

  • Manage payroll-related general ledger journal entries and account reconciliations (e.g., wages payable, payroll clearing, benefits liabilities).
  • Partner with the Finance team to support timely and accurate month-end and year-end close activities.

Reconciliation & Accounting Oversight

  • Manage payroll-related account reconciliations and general ledger integration (GLI).
  • Ensure accurate journal entries and reconciliation of wages, benefits, and accruals in Microsoft Dynamics 365 (D365).
  • Prepare and review payroll journal entries for financial closes and ensure consistent alignment with IFRS standards.
  • Support statutory, internal and external audits, including public company reporting requirements.

Financial Reporting & Analysis

  • Deliver advanced payroll analytics to support P&L reviews, cost forecasting, and strategic planning.
  • Collaborate with Finance and FP&A team to ensure timely and accurate payroll related financial reporting.
  • Lead the payroll reporting stream in support of acquisitions, integrations and operational expansion.

Systems Integration & Optimization

  • Manage system configuration in ADP and ensure effective data mapping into D365.
  • Drive continuous improvement through the use of technologies, AI, automation, reporting enhancement, and data integrity initiatives.
  • Champion projects that streamline multi-platform payroll operations post-M&A.

M&A Integration & Public Company Readiness

  • Lead payroll system and process integration for acquired entities, ensuring consistency and data hygiene.
  • Ensure adherence to corporate governance and Public Company reporting expectations.
  • Serve as a payroll compliance partner for cross-functional M&A due diligence and onboarding.

Leadership & Team Development

  • Mentor and guide junior payroll and finance staff, promoting a culture of accountability and excellence
  • Promote cross-functional collaboration with HR, Finance, and IT to align goals and process improvement initiatives.

You have:

  • Payroll Compliance Professional (PCP) required.
  • Payroll Leadership Professional (PLP) and/or Chartered Professional Account (CPA) is a strong asset.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive payroll experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership/managerial role
  • Prior experience within a publicly listed company and familiarity with Public Company reporting standards.
  • Demonstrated success working independently in high-growth, fast-paced, or M&A-intensive environments.
  • Deep knowledge of Canadian payroll legislation, statutory remittances, and tax regulations.
  • Proficient in payroll systems (e.g., ADP) and ERP platforms, particularly Microsoft Dynamics 365.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including data analysis, reconciliation, and financial modeling.
  • Strong understanding of payroll accounting principles, general ledger integration, and payroll-related financial reporting.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills, with a high attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact confidently with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage multiple deliverables under tight deadlines with minimal oversight.
