Position Summary The Shipping Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the logistics and coordination of inbound and outbound shipments, ensuring the efficient, safe, and timely movement of raw materials and finished goods in alignment with Vicwest’s operational standards and customer commitments. This role requires strong organizational skills, a keen eye for process improvement, and the ability to collaborate across multiple departments to drive service excellence.

Key Accountabilities

  • Logistics Coordination & Freight Management – Oversee all aspects of shipping and receiving activities to ensure timely and cost-effective transportation of goods while maintaining accuracy and service standards.
  • Compliance, Safety & Quality Assurance – Enforce safety protocols and ensure compliance with OHSA, WSIB, and internal procedures to maintain a safe and efficient work environment.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration & Reporting – partner with internal teams to support production goals, manage documentation, and provide leadership that posters productivity and customer satisfaction.

Major Responsibilities

  • Coordinate incoming and outgoing freight shipments, ensuring accurate documentation, routing, and timely dispatch in line with operational schedules.
  • Interface with sales, planning, and production teams to ensure customer requirements are clearly understood and fulfilled.
  • Develop and maintain efficient weekly truck route schedules for Western Canada, focusing on service delivery and cost optimization.
  • Review and approve freight invoices, manage accruals, and ensure all month-end shipping data is submitted accurately and on time.
  • Conduct inspections of incoming goods, compare deliveries against purchase orders and packing slips, and report discrepancies to the Inventory Controller.
  • Identify damaged freight and lead the freight claims process when necessary.
  • Monitor and ensure courteous, safe interaction with truck drivers and customers on-site, reinforcing compliance with safety protocols.
  • Assign daily tasks to shipping team members, balancing priorities to meet production and shipping deadlines.
  • Participate in operations and sales meetings, contributing updates and insights from the shipping function.
  • Provide guidance and resolve work-related challenges within the team, recommending improvements to drive efficiency and service quality.
  • Maintain accurate records and prepare shipping-related reports as required.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Experience in a manufacturing or industrial logistics environment is preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office tools, particularly Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Experience with SAP or similar ERP systems is considered an asset.
  • Proven leadership experience in a shipping or logistics role.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and standards related to shipping and receiving operations.
