About The Role Canadian Blood Services is looking for a r egular full-time Medical Laboratory Technologist I to join our dynamic Testing team .
The Testing team is an integral part of the supply chain. They perform extensive testing on donated blood for the infectious diseases and blood groups. These testing services help ensure a safe and secure blood supply that protects donors and recipients. Every unit is tested so we can ensure a safe supply chain to every patient. In this role, you will perform routine Blood Group Serology (BGS), Serological Transmissible Diseases (TD) and/or Nucleic Acid Transmissible Diseases (NAT) testing by following operating procedures and recording all related quality control/assurance activities.
Formula for success
- Drawing on your experience, you will receive, access and prepare specimens for testing; you will also perform required testing on reference and perinatal specimens.
- Applying your incredible attention to detail and organizational skills, you will evaluate testing, prepare reports and communicate results to customers.
- Utilizing your knowledge in testing, you will perform antibody identification by various test methods, and perform phenotype testing of patient samples.
- Drawing on your experience in the laboratory, you will perform serological investigation of transfusion reactions, as well as preparing appropriate quality control testing on reagents used.
- You will maintain all equipment and laboratory areas.
Desired Education And Skills
- Degree or Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology.
- Current MLT (ACMLT) practice permit.
- Experience with Transfusion Medicine/Red Cell Serology is an asset.
- Experience with current laboratory information system is an asset.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent customer services skills.
- Ability to work accurately with attention to detail, strong organization and time management skills.
- Superior problem solving and decision-making skills.

What You Can Expect
- Shifts/hours – must be flexible to accommodate assigned shifts which are based on operational needs; length of shifts can vary. Shifts include days, evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays. The department is staffed from Monday to Saturday between the hours of 7am to 9pm.
- Physical requirements – ability to lift weight up to 10 kg (22 lbs.)
