ASSISTANT MANAGER OF MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES
1.0 FTE – Temporary position (August 25, 2025 to January 30, 2026)
Salary Range: $109,467 per year
The Simcoe County District School Board is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Assistant Manager of Mental Health Services. This leadership role within the mental health and well-being department focuses on advancing system-wide and service specific initiatives in mental health promotion, prevention, and intervention. Reporting to the Mental Health Lead, the Assistant Manager will be responsible for the following core areas:
- Supervise the day-to-day responsibilities of child and youth work staff, providing mentorship, coaching and professional consultation. This role may also assist in the supervision of the attendance counsellor and social worker roles;
- Provide leadership to staff in building system and classroom capacity in mental health literacy and school-based programming grounded in trauma informed and responsive practices, self-regulation and social emotional skill development to enhance student mental health, well-being and academic outcomes;
- Design and deliver professional development sessions aligned with team, department and system goals;
- Coordinate and consult on Violent Threat Risk Assessment responses with system administration and response teams;
- Provide supervision and consultation to the Traumatic Incident Response Coordinator and response teams;
- Review applications and content for in-school presentation requests ensuring consistency with school board strategic priorities, mental health and addiction strategy, and the appropriateness of fit of mental health awareness and promotion initiatives;
- Collaborate across departments to integrate everyday mental health and well-being practices with special education, diversity, equity and inclusion, Indigenous education and student achievement initiatives;
- Ensure compliance with professional standards, legislative requirements, including records management, Human Resources protocols, OCSWSSW guidelines, and applicable legislation (Education Act, PHIPA etc.);
- Support the development and implementation of operational best practices and procedures within the department;
- Coordinate student post-secondary education placements within the mental health and well-being department, fostering a community of practice among placement supervisors;
- Operationalize the mental health and addiction strategy and mental health and well-being strategic priorities;
- Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills Required:
- Completion of a Master of Social Work degree;
- A registered member, in good standing, with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW) (those eligible for registration may be considered);
- A minimum of five (5) years of social work experience working in the area of children and youth mental health promotion, prevention, intervention, crisis and system navigation;
- Experience in an educational environment is preferred;
- A minimum of two (2) years in a supervisory capacity;
- Knowledge of effective and sustainable practices in school mental health;
- Knowledge in developmental trauma and trauma informed and responsive education practices, Self-Reg ®;
- Expertise in BRISC, Brief Digital Interventions, Single Session Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy;
- Working knowledge of relevant legislation (e.g. PHIPA, Mental Health Act, Child and Family Services Act);
- Demonstrated experience with strategic thinking, critical thinking and decision making;
- Training in Violent Threat Risk Assessment (VTRA) and Traumatic Incident Response;
- Demonstrated expertise in clinical supervision, that promote good outcomes for children/youth, and evidence-based practices;
- Skilled in developing and strengthening collaborations and partnerships with both internal teams and external stakeholders;
- Demonstrated leadership in leading knowledge dissemination initiatives and in strengthening the capacity of teams;
- Demonstrated expertise in service delivery approaches grounded in anti-racist and anti-oppressive practices that foster safe(r) spaces, cultural humility, and inclusivity;
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, organizational and creativity skills;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, interpersonal and presentation skills;
- Practice knowledge of relevant legislation, regulatory requirements and governing acts related to privacy, confidentiality, professional best practice, mental health and education;
- Experience in a unionized environment is preferred;
- Valid Class G driver's licence is required. The successful candidate will be required to provide a copy of their driver's licence;
- The nature of this position will require the successful candidate to service large geographical areas.
TESTING MAY BE REQUIRED DURING THE SELECTION PROCESS.
This is a full-time temporary position that works ten (10) months and ten (10) days of the year. This temporary assignment is scheduled to go until approximately January 30 2026. The compensation for this ten (10) month and ten (10) day position is $109,467 per year and will be pro-rated to the length of the assignment. This position is based on a thirty-five (35) hour work week.
Participation in the OMERS Pension Plan is mandatory for all full-time permanent employees,
even if currently in receipt of an OMERS pension.
