This role is a hybrid work arrangement. Work schedule to be discussed with Hiring Manager according to the guidelines defined by the department.
Your role
The Category Manager is a key member of the Supply Chain sourcing team, and reports to a Senior Director in Supply Chain Management. This role will involve working collaboratively with components, management teams across our business and external third parties.
You will show leadership and initiative to aim and attain departmental objectives with impact for its sourcing activities and the value it generates to benefit CBC. You will lead contract activities so they are strategically executed and documented on a day-day basis, in line with the global strategic plan as well as maintain healthy relationships with suppliers. You will act as a subject matter expert in procurement and help the team and your peers in various projects.
The Category Manager shall be able to work proficiently in both French and English, and be willing to travel as required. We are flexible on the location of the role between Toronto and Montreal.
Please note that this is a temporary position, end date June 30, 2026.
Main responsibilities:
- Bring and develop innovative tactics to support strategies.
- Lead activities on category strategies and associated plans, and ensure that governance regulations are complied with (CFTA; conflict of interests; etc.).
- Operate as a best in class vendor management team, including supplier performance management and feedback as well as commercial contract management.
- Partner effectively with internal business units.
- Act as a change agent in the efforts to redefine, transform and influence rules of engagement with Components.
- Focus on value creation through savings, cost avoidance, operational efficiencies, increased value for money.
- Contribute ,as required, with the development of internal dashboards, benchmarks and scorecards.
- Ensure state-of-the-art quality of service from suppliers.
- Align sourcing function with corporate expectations (SLAs; key KPIs) while adhering to and reinforcing corporate policies.
- Lead RFx sourcing projects as required, including public tendering.
- Oversee compliance of corporate contracts by business units.
- Manage complex and high visibility files.
Exigences
We are looking for a candidate with the following:
- Bachelor Degree, ideally MBA or Master in related field.
- 7 years+ sourcing experience.
- SCMA (PMAC) certification (SCMP or CPP) or equivalent, an asset.
- Experience in strategic sourcing and procurement.
- Good system and process optimization experience with proven track record.
- Strong communication and influencing skills.
- Good leadership skills.
- Team player at his/her levels to collaborate with components.
- General business skills, business acumen and negotiation savvy.
- Working knowledge of finance and/or accounting (e.g. terms of budgeting, cost management, risk management, etc.).
- Ability to understand the Corporation culture and how to best communicate procurement’s value internally and externally.
- In-depth knowledge of sourcing and procurement principles and best practices.
- Strategic mindset and problem-solving skills.
- Change management skills.
- Bilingual (French and English) at a proficient level for commercial negotiation and contract drafting.
- Familiar with and capable of using various software packages, ERP software, preferably Oracle and SAP, in delivering corporate reports and projects would be considered an asset.
- Knowledge of Crown Corporations and government agencies would be considered an asset.
