Job Description
The City of Mission's Finance Department is seeking an experienced Payroll Supervisor to lead our payroll team in the efficient and accurate processing of payroll for our organization. This critical role ensures compliance with legislative regulations, collective agreements, and internal policies while providing leadership, guidance, and support to payroll staff.
As the Payroll Supervisor, you will be responsible for leading a team in the accurate and timely processing of payroll for a diverse, multi-union workforce. You’ll oversee day-to-day operations, delegate tasks, review work for accuracy, and ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, collective agreements, and organizational policies. Your role will involve maintaining employee records, reconciling payroll runs, preparing reports and remittances, and resolving complex payroll issues. You’ll also play a key role in training new team members, conducting performance reviews, and supporting professional development within your team. Collaborating closely with Human Resources and other departments, you'll ensure payroll practices are aligned and responsive to changing needs. In addition, you'll also complete year-end processes related to payroll.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have completed the Certified Payroll Management Certificate from the Canadian Payroll Registration, supplemented by completion of general accounting and Excel courses, and a high school diploma or equivalent.
The ideal candidate will also have completion of a recognized supervisory course, one year of supervisory experience, and a minimum of five years of progressively complex payroll experience in a unionized environment, preferably in a municipal government setting.
Additional Information
The 2025 hourly rate of pay for this union position is $50.47, plus a comprehensive benefits package including the Municipal Pension Plan. The hours of work for this position are 8:00 am to 4:30 pm from Monday to Friday working a nine-day fortnight (one extra day off every two weeks).
