Access Central & Virtual Substance Use Addiction Medicine Physician
About the role
The successful candidate will provide Virtual Addiction Medicine services to clients across the Island Health, including those living with complex medical conditions such as persistent mental health and/or substance use disorders.
The service includes 2 components - a Virtual Substance Use Service and Access Central. The Virtual Substance Use service component includes provision of Opiate Agonist Therapy (OAT), alcohol anti-craving medications, harm reduction, and possibly low-risk withdrawal management. The Access Central component involves clinical assessment, triage and service matching for a variety of substance use services, including withdrawal management, stabilization, treatment and recovery, supportive recovery, and outpatient services.
Physician must have OAT prescribing ability in BC, and preferably advanced addiction medicine skills. For out of province applicants, assistance in obtaining POATSP can be provided.
The successful candidate, as part of the multidisciplinary Access Central & Virtual Substance Use team, will collaborate closely with medical and operational leadership, Nursing, Social Work, Addiction and Recovery Workers, Indigenous Clinicians, Indigenous Support Workers, Peer Support Workers and individuals with lived experience.
Island Health is affiliated with the UBC Faculty of Medicine Island Medical Program, and the successful candidate will be required to provide teaching and training to medical students and residents. A clinical faculty appointment at UBC will be required, and assistance in applying for a faculty appointment can be provided.
