Intensive Youth Worker

Classification: Full Time, Permanent
Reports To: Youth Team Leader
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Intensive Youth Worker is responsible for co-facilitating programs that meet the needs of youth aged 13-18 in the Alert Bay community. The Intensive Youth Support Worker will be responsible for creating consistent programs for youth with a strong focus on connection to culture, land, language and nurturing spirit, identity, and a strong sense of belonging. The Intensive Youth Support Worker will co-facilitate the supervision and delivery of programs by contracting with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and other community members to help deliver programming.
Job Duties**:**
- Identify gaps in service and create comprehensive and effective programs for youth.
- Supervise evening and weekend programming, as well as programs that will occur during spring break, winter break and summer.
- Create a safe and welcoming space, that is youth-focused and is trauma-informed.
- Organize youth-specific events and groups (campouts, swimming, skating, etc.), often in collaboration with community partners.
- Remove barriers to participation in programs by ensuring appropriate planning/communication, and by providing food and transportation within a specific budget.
- Collaborate with other agencies, nations, and councils to ensure programs meet the complex needs of the youth in our community.
- Build relationships with Elders and Knowledge Keepers in the community to deliver programs that are rooted in culture and language.
- Provide one-to-one intensive support to youth, as needed.
- Co-facilitate and organize a Youth Advisory Council.
Job Qualifications:
- Grade 12 or equivalent; diploma or degree in Human Services would be an asset.
- First Aid Certification, Food Safe, and suicide-intervention training are preferred.
- Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence.
Other Job Requirements:
- Overtime on evenings and weekends may be required from time-to-time
- Employment is subject to satisfactory employment references and criminal record review
Salary: $56,547 – $66,193
