MARKETING & DIGITAL GROWTH DIVISION
PURPOSE SUMMARY
Serving under the guidance of the Integrated Media Manager, the Content Marketing & PR Specialist is responsible for creating, optimizing, and distributing written content that aligns with Compassion Canada’s child-focused, Christ-centered, and church-driven mission. This role will also spearhead digital public relations initiatives, working closely with both internal teams (such as Growth Marketing and Brand & Product Experience) to amplify Compassion’s story, secure impactful media coverage, and elevate the organization’s online presence. Additionally, the Content Marketing & PR Specialist assists in developing proactive and responsive communication plans to support strategic communications and public relations efforts.

TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES
Content Creation & Editorial
Research, write, and edit compelling ads, blog posts, articles, and website copy in line with Compassion Canada’s voice and mission.
Collaborate with the Integrated Media Manager (IMM) and other stakeholders to develop content strategies that align with broader marketing initiatives, including social media, email, and newsletters.
Ensure all written content meets SEO best practices, maintains brand consistency, and resonates with Compassion’s audience.
Digital PR & Media Outreach
In partnership with the manager, identify opportunities for coverage across various digital channels, online publications, podcasts, and influencer platforms.
Craft press releases, media pitches, and promotional material that highlight Compassion’s programs, campaigns, and success stories.
Build and maintain relationships with journalists, bloggers, and media influencers, securing interviews and coverage that elevate Compassion’s mission and brand.
Monitor relevant media mentions, industry trends, and timely news opportunities to position Compassion as a thought leader.
Assist in developing proactive and responsive communication plans (including sensitive messaging) to address both anticipated and emergent PR needs.
Prepare spokespersons by creating key messages, talking points, and briefing documents for media engagements or public statements.
Advise on PR strategy in collaboration with the Director of Digital Marketing & Experience, IMM and external partners, ensuring messaging aligns with Compassion’s values and organizational objectives.
Collaboration & Cross-Functional Coordination
Work closely with the IMM, Growth Marketing teams, and the Brand & Product Experience team to ensure integrated, cohesive campaign approaches.
Collaborate with the IMM to align content calendars, campaign goals, and performance metrics across digital and traditional media channels.
Engage with design, social media, and multimedia teams to produce visuals (e.g., infographics, videos) that complement written content.
Coordinate feedback and approvals from key stakeholders, including senior leadership and external partners.
Optimization & Reporting
Track and analyze key performance indicators for content and digital PR efforts.
Use tools like Google Analytics, Ahrefs, social listening platforms, or PR tracking software to generate insights that inform strategy adjustments.
Provide regular updates and reports to the IMM and relevant teams, highlighting successes, challenges, and areas for improvement.
Develop and maintain a media outreach calendar to ensure ongoing alignment with Compassion Canada’s broader marketing objectives.
Innovation & Continuous Improvement
Stay current with digital PR trends, SEO developments, AI-related developments impacting SEO and digital marketing, and best practices for content marketing.
Experiment with new outreach tactics, content formats, and storytelling methods to keep Compassion’s audiences informed, engaged, and inspired.
Participate in brainstorming sessions with the IMM and other department leads, proposing new ideas for campaigns, awareness initiatives, or audience engagement strategies.
WHO YOU ARE MATTERS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Strong Writing & Editorial Skills: Demonstrated excellence in writing and editing for digital platforms—blog articles, press releases, website copy—ensuring clarity, persuasion, and faith-centered storytelling.
Media Outreach & Relationship Building: Ability to cultivate strong relationships with media outlets, influencers, and other partners; skilled at crafting pitches that resonate with various audiences.
Strategic Communications & Crisis Planning: Experience developing proactive and responsive communication plans, including sensitive messaging and spokesperson preparation.
Organizational & Project Management: Experience juggling multiple projects, aligning with content calendars, and meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Adaptable to new and emerging collaboration, creative and project management platforms such as Teams, Asana, Mural.
Collaboration & Communication: Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills, with a track record of effective teamwork across cross-functional teams and external partners.
SEO & Analytics Understanding: Familiarity with SEO best practices, analytics tools (Google Analytics, SEMrush, Ahrefs etc.), and data-driven decision-making.
WHAT YOU BRING MATTERS
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
A degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism, or a related field.
2+ years of experience in content writing, digital marketing, public relations, or a similar role. Nonprofit experience is an asset but not required.
Proven success in developing engaging content and executing digital PR initiatives that drive coverage, engagement, and brand awareness.
WORKING CONDITIONS
We aim to build a unified cultural experience for all staff that promotes staff autonomy and an agile workforce, allowing Compassion to adapt to the changing environment and respond to the dynamic needs of the neighbours we serve. As such, we will continue placing a strong emphasis on our remote staff experience, and distributed workforce culture, while leaning into a ‘work from anywhere’ reality that prioritizes:
Remote-First Employment: All staff who are not in-office essential default to remote work and are classified as Remote Workplace Staff or Hybrid Workplace Staff depending on their distance to the Compassion building,
Digital-First Engagement: Staff Gatherings will continue to prioritize the remote/online experience.
Travel and Overtime may be required.
