About the role

We are a well-established full service London based law firm seeking to hire a full-time legal assistant for a family law senior partner.

The ideal candidate will have a law clerk or legal assistant diploma from an accredited college and will have at least three years of experience primarily in the area of family law; experience with civil litigation, wills and estates would be an asset.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS

  • Opening, closing and organizing physical and electronic client files according to firm policies, procedures and LSO guidelines
  • Drafting all family law related documents (e.g. pleadings, motions, conference briefs, orders, separation agreements, parenting plans, affidavits, memos, correspondence, etc.)
  • Preparing Disclosure Briefs, including Form 13s, Form 13.1s, Disclosure Brief, Comparison of Net Family Property Statements, Certificate of Financial Disclosure and Net Family Property Statements
  • Coordinating/Communicating with third party service providers and party’s (e.g. process servers, courts, appraisal companies, etc.)
  • Maintain tickler system, photocopying, faxing, binding of documents, printing, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE

  • College Diploma (preferred)
  • 3+ years of Family Law experience (mandatory)

REQUIREMENTS

  • Understanding of the Family Law Rules, procedure and local Practice Directions
  • Experience assisting on matters concerning estates such as guardianships, will challenges and interpretations, power of attorney issues and disputes, passings of accounts and dependant relief applications considered an asset
  • Effective and efficient time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to work under stress and meet deadlines
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Confidence to manage multiple complex files at the same time
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion
  • Personable, professional demeanour and diligent work ethic
  • Ability to work in a team environment but also independently
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, Adobe and DivorceMate
  • Experience with CaseLines is an advantage
