Coast Mountain College (CMTN), Terrace Campus, invites applications for a part-time (50%, 17.5 hours per week) continuing Computer Lab Technician commencing as soon as possible. Salary will be in accordance with the BCGEU Support Staff Scale, Level 9: $1,180.55 biweekly plus a comprehensive benefit plan.

Duties: This position will provide comprehensive support to the System Administration and Networking (SAND) program to ensure the provision of quality, timely and reliable support for student success.

Tasks will include but are not limited to:

  • Provide support to analyze, design, document, and develop training aids in support of courses, laboratory assignments and departmental operations
  • Set up and ensure computers, printers, and networking equipment are operational
  • Troubleshoot software and hardware problems, and arrange for equipment repairs
  • Assist students to problem-solve and understand the procedures involved in mastering computerized applications and networking technologies
  • Provide information to students and guide them through steps in software programs and network configurations to complete assignments
  • Diagnose and resolve technical problems related to lab systems, software, hardware, and other training aids
  • Maintain accurate records of issues, resolutions, and troubleshooting steps, identifying common procedures and solutions to build a knowledge base for future reference and training purposes
  • Communicate with internal and external suppliers regarding coordination of repair or warranty issues
  • Maintain a safe working area in accordance with WorkSafe BC, WHMIS and College requirements and procedures
  • Create work order requests using College software and procedures for maintenance of building/lab space where deficiencies are identified
  • Update and Perform inventory management process duties: receiving and inspecting products and verify condition; sorting and stocking; taking tools, equipment, or consumables out of service and disposal of products at end of life
  • Assist Instructor in student testing and monitor student attendance and progress
  • Invigilate course exams, collect final exam materials from students and deliver to appropriate personnel for safekeeping
  • Communicate directly with Instructors or Program Coordinator as needed regarding student progress or difficulties
  • Promote a positive work atmosphere and communicate in a professional manner demonstrating mutual respect with students and colleagues
  • Other related duties as assigned by Supervisor or designate

Qualifications

A two-year diploma in Information Technology, Computer Science, Network Administration or related field along with a minimum of 2 years of related work experience. Preference include CompTIA A+ and CCNA (Cisco certification Network Associate) certifications. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Proven skills and experience with combination of the following must be demonstrated:

  • Strong skills and knowledge in troubleshooting and proficiency in diagnosing and resolving problems related to networking technologies and computer systems
  • Proficient with MS Office / O365
  • Working knowledge of software/hardware applicable to SAND program delivery
  • Practical understanding of multimedia resources and equipment for learning and teaching
  • Ability to handle multiple support requests concurrently while maintaining high level of responsiveness and quality.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills combined with strong time-management skills
  • Ability to work effectively independent as well as within a diverse team-environment.
  • Excellent conflict resolution skill with demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and use discretion in dealing with students and records.
