Responsibilities
Reporting to the Manager of Counselling and Accessibility Services, the successful candidate will:
- Provide assessment and personal counselling services to students, crisis intervention and critical incident stress management/debriefings, and provide referrals to appropriate services for the Laurentian campus and the McEwen School of Architecture;
- Research, prepare and facilitate workshops, presentations and other educational activities and tools for students, staff and faculty (Mental Health Promotion and Awareness);
- Develop and maintain knowledge of services provided by the Laurentian campus and other community service agencies; to make effective use of those other community services available in ensuring a coordinated response to the identified needs of the client; to ensure effective liaison with all agencies/programs involved with the client;
- Support and promote equity, diversity and inclusion on campus;
- Participate in the development of new delivery models;
- Establish and maintain effective relations with the University community and with agencies and organizations in the wider community; and
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Honors undergraduate degree (4 years) in Social Work, Psychology or related field, Master’s degree an asset;
- Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in counselling of students in a post-secondary institution (university or college level), experience with youth and/or young adults will be considered;
- Experience in counselling of students from a diverse background is an asset;
- Membership, in good standing in a regulated professional college is necessary,
- Experience in crisis intervention counselling;
- Critical Incident Stress Management/Debriefing experience;
- Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills;
- Excellent abilities to work collaboratively with an interdisciplinary team;
- Proficiency in MS Office software applications, including word processing, spreadsheet, database and presentation software applications, as well as Internet research capabilities; and
- Ability to work fluently, verbally and in writing, in both official languages, French and English, is required.
THIS POSITION MAY REQUIRE A DIFFERENT WORK WEEK AND/OR HOURS OF WORK. THIS MAY INCLUDE EVENINGS AND/OR WEEKEND SHIFTS.
Work Hours: Tuesday to Saturday 3.30 pm to 11.00 pm
The official University hours of operation shall be from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, during, and including, the months from September to April, and from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m Monday through Friday during and including May to August., amounting to thirty-three and three-quarter (33.75) hours per week.
