Special Risks (Loan Gntee) 17: Salaries range from $83,037 to $110,717 annually, based on qualifications and experiences, plus a performance-based incentive.

Location:
- Export Development Canada operates in a hybrid work environment, currently requiring employees to work in the office 2 days per week. (subject to change)
- This role can be performed from EDC’s headquarters in Ottawa or from one of our Community Hubs located in Toronto, or Montreal.
- Relocation assistance is available for candidates who meet the eligibility criteria.
Team Overview The Export Development Canada (EDC) Special Operations Group consists of Risk Transfer, Special Risks – Insurance and Trade Guarantees, Special Risks- Loans, and Special Risks- Loan Guarantees. The group is responsible for reinsurance and managing all recovery efforts on impaired transactions including insurance, bonding, loans and loan guarantees in EDC's Corporate and Canada Account portfolios. The group’s responsibilities include the management of recoveries, out-of-court workouts, bankruptcies, restructurings, and asset liquidations. The group is regularly consulted by EDC’s various financing and insurance teams.
Reporting to the Director of Special Risks – Loan Guarantees, the successful candidate will primarily be focused on the management of claims under our EDC’s loan guarantee programs, in particular the Export Guarantee Program (EGP), Trade Expansion Lending Program (TELP), and Business Credit Availability Program (BCAP), and will also provide support on a consultative basis to EDC’s guarantee team(s). We are looking for a motivated and seasoned professional with experience in lending and/or special loans.
What You Will Be Doing
- Thoroughly understand all aspects of EDC’s guarantee programs, including EDC’s market position, risk appetite and related documentation.
- Working independently, leads or participates in all aspects of transaction management and loss mitigation assessments and recommendations.
- Makes recommendations to mitigate loss while balancing mandate and relationship considerations.
- Responsible for communication and managing relationships as appropriate with financial institutions, obligors, bankers, lawyers, receivers, and trustees.
- Explains difficult or sensitive information and works to build consensus.
- Resolves issues arising with internal or external counterparties.
- Supports and contributes to continuous improvement activities
What We Are Looking For
- Bachelor of Commerce in Business, Finance or Accounting (or equivalent education/experience)
- Minimum of 5 years (Special Risks Manager 17), and 7 years (Special Risks Manager 18) of recent experience in commercial/corporate lending, structured and project financing, or managing special risks transactions
- Knowledge of commercial lending practices, common financing structures, and security
- Strong credit analysis, risk assessment and negotiation skills
- Bilingual (English & French)
What Will Make You Stand Out
- Prior underwriting experience in International Financing Guarantees team
- Completion of an MBA (or equivalent post-graduate degree in related discipline eg. CFA)
- Experience in Continuous Improvement (automation, RPA, etc)
