Job Summary
The Landscape Design Helper plays a key role in the success of the design team by capturing and preparing accurate site data, supporting base plan development, and assisting with project setup. This role works closely with Designers, Sales, and Estimators to ensure the design process starts with clarity and confidence.
Duties and Responsibilities
Site Documentation & Prep
- Attend initial site visits with the design or sales team.
- Take accurate site measurements (manual or digital) and capture detailed site photos.
- Record existing conditions (grades, hardscapes, structures, vegetation, utilities, access points).
- Build out base plans in CAD or other design software from collected data.
Design Setup
- Input site info into design software (AutoCAD, Dynascape, Vectorworks, etc.).
- Prepare digital or hand-drawn base files for design development.
- Translate client wants to base designs
- Source preliminary material options (paving, plant lists, lighting).
Team Support
- Coordinate with sales, estimators, and lead designers to ensure site info is complete.
- Manage photo libraries and material samples.
- Assist with preparing permit or regulatory documentation (if applicable).
- Assist with site visits, measurements, and design preparation
- Perform occasional field layout of designs (plant placement, feature marking).
- Organize and create site files, notes, and client preferences into project folders.
- Other duties as required for the success of the projects
Qualifications
- Education in landscape design, architecture, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- 1 to 2 years of Residential Landscape Designer
- Proficiency in CAD, SketchUp, or similar landscape design software
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in measurement and drawing
- Comfortable working outdoors in varying conditions
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities
- Clear communication and the ability to work within a team
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License with a clean abstract
