Program Overview
The Program Coordinator works collaboratively with other team members to ensure the success of YWCA Halifax’s youth programming. This includes planning and facilitating workshops, developing program resources, supporting youth participants individually and in groups, maintaining virtual and in-person communication, and engaging community partners.
This position plays a key role in delivering CUSP – Youth Volunteerism and Community Changemaking, a Canada Service Corps–funded initiative. Coordinators are responsible for taking youth participants through 120 hours of structured programming that fosters leadership, civic engagement, and grassroots changemaking.
Through in-class and community-based learning, Coordinators design and deliver youth-centered workshops focused on building core competencies such as resilience, community engagement, and volunteerism. They also help youth transition from in-class learning into meaningful placements by supporting them with mentorship, connection to services, and tailored coaching throughout the process.
The Program Coordinators are responsible for ensuring all YWCA procedures, policies, and budgets are followed and helps contribute to the advancement and achievement of the YWCA mission, vision, values, guiding principles, strategic plan, business plan, and departmental plan.
Duties:
- Ensure the day-to-day functioning of the Youth Volunteerism Program, including administrative tasks such as email communication, scheduling, budgeting, and documentation.
- Facilitate workshops both virtually and in-person, focused on leadership development, grassroots community engagement, and social justice.
- Design and deliver programming aligned with CUSP’s core learning outcomes and Canada Service Corps objectives.
- Support participants through all stages of the program, including onboarding, in-class learning, placement preparation, and community-based volunteering.
- Provide one-on-one support to youth, helping them access volunteer placements, mentors, and other wraparound services.
- Collaborate with YWCA teams and external organizations to broaden access to relevant supports, events, and resources.
- Complete all required documentation, including funder reporting, evaluation tools, and participant tracking.
- Maintain program activities within approved financial and budgetary limits.
- Engage in continuous learning and professional development to ensure high-quality, equity-informed service delivery to youth.
- Work collaboratively and respectfully within a team structure committed to feminist, anti-oppressive, trauma-informed, and inclusive practices.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- The Program Coordinator will have a college diploma or undergraduate degree in Social Work, Education, Recreation, Child and youth care practitioner other relevant areas of studies.
- Experience facilitating workshops, including online facilitation, classes or programs.
- Experience in community partnerships and collaboration.
- Comfortable public speaking.
- Confidence and experience working with youth ages 12-30yrs.
- Effective interpersonal skills and computer literacy.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Flexible, adaptable, and able to work with your team as needed.
This position requires staff to work evenings, weekends, and other hours depending on the stage of the program. This is essential to ensuring the program is youth focused and accessible.
