Location - This role is hybrid with a mix of remote and in-person. Work primarily takes place at North Campus, Edmonton OR Enterprise Square.

Position Summary

The Benefits and Wellbeing Analytics Consultant is a specialized contributor within the Total Rewards team, accountable for applying advanced data analytics, strategic insight, and subject matter expertise to inform and optimize the design, delivery, and governance of the University’s benefits, pension, and wellbeing programs. This position plays a critical role in delivering actionable intelligence to support executive decision-making related to disability management, leave programs, retirement readiness, program utilization and workplace wellbeing.

Reporting to the Manager, Benefits and Wellbeing, the Consultant acts as a thought partner in advancing analytics maturity within Human Resources, Health, Safety and Environment (HRHSE), ensuring that programs are cost-effective, evidence-informed, compliant and aligned with workforce needs and institutional priorities. The successful incumbent will demonstrate leadership in interpreting complex data trends, producing compelling reporting and recommendations, and serving as a trusted advisor on benefits, pension, and well-being analytics.

Duties

The Analytics Consultant exercises expert-level judgment in designing analytical frameworks and delivering insights that influence major institutional decisions regarding benefits, pension, and employee well-being. The role operates with a high degree of independence and strategic impact, with key responsibilities including:

  • Managing multi-source data sets across complex, interdependent programs
  • Advising on compliance and regulatory frameworks such as the Canada Revenue Agency, Alberta Pension Services, and provincial employment standards.
  • Shaping analytical methodologies that influence plan design, policy, and long-term financial planning.
  • Lead the review of existing benefit programs, review enhancement opportunities and implement changes under the guidance of the Manager, Benefits & Wellbeing.

The Analytics Consultantworks independently within defined policies but has the opportunity to shape analytical methodologies and reporting frameworks to improve HR data capabilities.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Data Analytics, Business, Human Resources, Actuarial Science, Finance, or a related field.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in benefits, pension, wellbeing or total rewards analytics.
  • Experience in a large, complex public sector and unionized organization (post-secondary institution, healthcare, or government preferred).
  • Certifications (preferred, not required):
    • CEBS (Certified Employee Benefits Specialist)
    • RPA (Retirement Plans Associate)
    • GBA (Group Benefits Associate)
    • CPHR (Chartered Professional in Human Resources)
    • Tableau, Power BI, or SQL Certification

Knowledge

  • Comprehensive understanding of group benefits and pension arrangements, including defined benefit (DB), defined contribution (DC), and hybrid models, with working knowledge of wellness program design in large institutional settings.
  • In-depth familiarity with regulatory frameworks, including Workers’ Compensation Board (WCB), Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), Alberta Employment Standards, and pension governance policies.
  • Sound understanding of provincial and federal compliance requirements related to pension and benefits administration.
  • Proficient in HR data governance principles, privacy legislation (e.g., FOIP) and institutional reporting standards.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting comparative analysis and benchmarking using industry data from sources such as Mercer, Korn Ferry, Conference Board of Canada, and WTW.

Skills / Competencies

  • Expert technical proficiency in data analysis using Excel, SQL, Power BI, Tableau, or equivalent platforms.
  • Ability to interpret complex data sets to identify trends, build financial forecasts, and support scenario planning.
  • Proficient in developing business intelligence tools and dynamic dashboards that translate data into actionable insights and inform strategic decision-making.
  • Clear and effective communicator, capable of presenting findings to both technical and non-technical audiences through reports, briefings, and visual storytelling.
  • Exceptional attention to detail in data management, with a strong commitment to confidentiality and compliance.
  • Agile and solution-focused, with the ability to adapt to evolving priorities and contribute to continuous process and program improvements.
