SUMMARY OF DUTIES
Reports to Supervisor, Golf Operations.
Operates a variety of equipment for the daily maintenance of golf courses by cutting grass, maintaining tees, greens and fairways and repairing and inspecting lines, valves and sprinklers on underground golf course irrigation systems. Primary location will be Chedoke / King’s Forest Golf Course with occasional travel required between Chedoke Golf Course and King’s Forest Golf Course.
GENERAL DUTIES
Repairs and inspects lines, valves and sprinklers on underground golf course irrigation systems.
Removes old systems and recovers reusable equipment.
Sets and maintains times on electronic valve clocks.
Troubleshoots electronic and hydraulic systems, irrigation controllers, solenoid valves and heads of all types.
Operates tractor and trenches to install and repair lines.
Cuts grass, maintains tees, greens and fairways by fertilizing, aerifying and verticutting.
Relocates tee markers and flag pin positions.
Reconstructs greens and tees.
Inspects grounds for weeds, pests and disease infestation; reports conditions through Integrated Pest Management requirements.
Plants and maintains flowers, shrubs, trees and grass.
Clears litter, debris and dead animals; empties garbage cans.
Repairs and maintains outdoor structures such as washrooms, field and pump houses, benches, signs and bridges.
Operates tools and equipment such as power saws, drills, tractor, lawn mowers, weedeaters, bob cat and front-end loader.
Attaches and detaches accessory pieces of equipment such as aerify, verticut and topdressing machines.
Mixes and sprays pesticides and fungicides on flowers, shrubs, trees and grass.
Repairs roads with front-end loader such as grading.
Maintains cart pathways by filling holes and spreading stone dust.
Performs minor water-line repairs such as replacing taps and sprinklers; cleans storm drains.
Winterizes irrigation system.
Removes snow from pathways, sidewalks and stairs by scraping, shovelling, sanding and salting.
Receives and answers inquiries from public, staff and contractors.
Operates heavy equipment, bob cat, back hoe, front-end loader and trencher.
Loads and unloads equipment.
Dispenses fuel.
Performs preventative maintenance on vehicles, tools and equipment.
Works in accordance with the provisions of applicable Health and Safety legislation and all City of Hamilton corporate and departmental policies and procedures related to Occupational Health and Safety.
Performs other duties as assigned which are directly related to the major responsibilities of the job.
QUALIFICATIONS
Previous experience in golf course maintenance normally acquired through a combination of education and relevant work experience.
Must hold a valid Ontario Landscape Exterminator Licence or a Sprayer Technician Certification.
Previous experience and knowledge of irrigation systems including repairs and maintenance.
Previous experience and training in operating heavy equipment, bob cat, back hoe, front-end loader and trencher.
Demonstrated ability to operate vehicles, tools and equipment in a safe manner.
Ability to comprehend and communicate both written and verbally.
Knowledge and understanding of golf rules and golf etiquette.
Must hold a valid Ontario Landscape Exterminator Licence or a Sprayer Technician Certification.
Demonstrated knowledge of the Health and Safety Act and applicable regulations as it relates to the position.
Must possess a valid Class "DZ" Driver’s Licence.
THIS POSITION REQUIRES A VALID CLASS "DZ" DRIVER'S LICENCE AND PROOF THEREOF IS REQUIRED AFTER HIRE.
HOURS: 40 per week
NOTE: This position will have some responsibilities in the Roads Operations & Maintenance section for Winter Control Operations.
