Position Purpose And Summary The vision of Trinity Western University is to equip every graduate to think truthfully, act justly, and live faithfully for the good of the World and the glory of God. The Campus Ministries department through the Associate Chaplain of Discipleship (ACD) will seek to accomplish the vision of the university through providing Christ-centered formation initiatives focused on communicating the truth and invitation of the gospel to this diverse constituency, primarily at the Langley campus. The ACD will lead in the development and execution of innovative and adaptive strategies and programming to meet the unique discipleship needs of students at TWU Langley. As a part of, and in close partnership with, the Student Life division they will foster and embody a collaborative mindset in addressing spiritual needs across TWU campuses to our diverse student body.
Key Outcomes (Areas of Accountability) Prayer (Acts 1:14) Discipleship Ministries is known to be a department and people of prayer; initiatives to cultivate a culture of prayer across campus are undertaken and supported.
- The ACD will recruit, train, and mentor a Student Leader who is designated the Prayer Coordinator on an annual basis.
Evangelism (Acts 2:1-41) Discipleship Ministries is known as a hub of Christian warmth and hospitality, adroit in enfolding students from diverse backgrounds; Discipleship Ministries is attentive, wise, and energetic in creating D-Group/small group opportunities to share the good news of the gospel with every tribe, tongue, and people.
- As the opportunity arises, initiate and organize D-Group or small group gatherings that are tailored to meet the needs of the curious, questioning, or newly believing students (e.g., Alpha).
- Foster training to equip students to take the gospel to their respective communities, both in Canada and abroad.
Christian Formation Through Biblical Knowledge (Acts 2:42) Students are increasingly engaged in D-Groups, small groups, and ad hoc Bible studies; a sophisticated, calibrated discipleship biblically-based curriculum for the Fall and Spring semesters are organized on an annual basis.
- Provide opportunities for students to engage in Bible studies.
- Ensure an effective and thorough discipleship curriculum is in place.
Fellowship (Acts 2:42-46) Fellowship events foster relationship among students, staff, and faculty; these events are known to serve as winsome doorways into evangelistic and discipleship endeavors.
- Organize short, powerful engagements that foster fellowship among the students with each other, staff, and faculty.
- Connect students to the worshiping life of trusted local churches.
Worship (Acts 2:47) Discipleship Ministries proactively supports, encourages, and helps to sustain a robust culture of worship at TWU.
- Support and encourage the work of the Associate Chaplain of Worship, specifically by attending, and promoting attendance to, chapel.
- Foster a doxological spirit in Discipleship Ministries and within discipleship activities. Inculcate the idea and habit that theological reflection properly begins and ends in doxology.
Service (Acts 3:10) Discipleship Ministries provides opportunity to serve TWU and the local community.
- Dialogue and partner with the Associate Director of Outreach and the Centre for College and Career Development to find creative ways to provide opportunities and motivate service to local communities (e.g., by articulation of how such service projects can function as potent resumé builders).
Scalability Through Effective Peer Ministry (Acts 4:12-16) Ministry to and with students will be designed and undertaken with an eye toward scalability, with the anticipation and systemic preparedness for growth.
- Create and maintain a dashboard of quantitative and qualitative statistics designed to track, evaluate, and adapt ministry initiatives for maximal impact; seek continuous improvement in all ministry areas.
- Work creatively and responsibly within an allotted budget.
Student Leader Development (Acts 1:15-26; 6:1-7) As funds are made available or generated, student leaders will be hired to assist in undertaking and building out ministry to students.
- Recruit, interview, hire, train, and mentor students to fill strategic positions to aid and assist in above objectives. Currently, this includes Ministry Team Leaders, Discipleship Coordinators, and D-Group Leaders.
