The Senior Project Accountant plays a key role in supporting the Precedent Land Finance & Accounting team by taking ownership of accounting for Canadian land operations, preparing accounting entries and periodic financial reports that reflect the status and progress of land development projects, and assisting with consolidated Precedent Land reporting.
This role is located at Precedent Land Company in Vaughan, ON. What We Are Looking For In addition to your expertise in land acquisition and development, here’s what we’d love to see:

3-5 years of experience, preferably in the real estate industry.

CPA designation completed or enrolled is preferred.

Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.

Strong attention to detail with solid proficiency in Excel and financial systems; able to manage and analyze large volumes of data accurately.

Sound understanding of accounting principles, with experience resolving common issues related to account reconciliations, financial reporting, and variance analysis.

Effective problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot routine accounting issues independently and escalate complex matters appropriately.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate cross-functionally across finance, project teams, and external auditors to exchange information and resolve inquiries.

Demonstrated judgment and accountability in making day-to-day decisions related to reconciliations, financial reports, and adjusting entries to ensure accurate project accounting.

What You’ll Be Doing Each Day

Prepare and record journal entries related to land closings, operating income, development management fees, cost of sales, and cost-to-complete.

Calculate and record interest on direct debt and intercompany loans.

Prepare monthly bank reconciliations, project recovery schedules, and maintain up-to-date project cash flow forecasts.

Support monthly and quarterly consolidated financial reporting for Precedent Land, ensuring accuracy and completeness.

Prepare annual financial statements and working papers for audit purposes; respond to auditor queries in a timely and professional manner.

Manage the preparation and submission of loan draw requests and cash calls with required supporting documentation, ensuring timely funding and issue resolution.

Monitor project activity regularly, maintain a clear understanding of project status, and recommend improvements to accounting processes and internal controls.
