Business Data Analyst – Study and Stay NL Program

About IENL:

International Education Newfoundland and Labrador (IENL), in partnership with the College of the North Atlantic, Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador, the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA), and the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, is leading an initiative for exceptional and motivated international students who are committed to living, working, and contributing to communities in Newfoundland and Labrador. The Study and Stay NL Program is a province-wide program aimed at connecting graduating international students directly to the entrepreneurial ecosystem and to the labour market, helping participants to build valuable professional and entrepreneurship skills, gain workplace knowledge, and build meaningful connections through workshops, networking, and mentorship.

Position Overview:

The Business Data Analyst will play a key role in evaluating IENL’s student support and retention initiatives by collecting, organizing, and analyzing existing program data. Through this work, they will identify trends, pinpoint gaps, and measure the overall impact of IENL’s efforts. Drawing on these findings, they will recommend evidence-based strategies to enhance program outcomes and better support international students in Newfoundland and Labrador as they transition to life after graduation.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Data Analysis & Insight Generation: Organize and utilize quantitative and qualitative data from IENL’s existing student support, mentorship, and career development programs to identify trends, patterns, and areas of improvement.
  • Program Effectiveness Measurement: Develop metrics and benchmarks to assess the success and impact of IENL’s initiatives, producing data-driven insights that inform strategic planning and decision-making.
  • Reporting & Presentations: Create clear, user-friendly reports, dashboards, and visualizations to communicate findings, outcomes, and recommendations to the IENL team and its partners.
  • Process Evaluation & Automation: Assess a review of IENL’s internal operational processes, identify inefficiencies, and propose automated solutions or tools to streamline workflows and improve organizational efficiency.

Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a post-secondary program in a related field (e.g., Data Analytics, Statistics, Computer Science or a related field)
  • Proficiency in data analysis tools (Excel, SPSS, R, or Python) as well as data visualization platforms (eg. Power BI or Tableau)
  • Strong ability to interpret and synthesize complex data sets, draw meaningful conclusions, and recommend actionable strategies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, with the ability to present findings clearly to a range of stakeholders
  • Understanding or enthusiasm for the international student experience and the broader context of international education
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment

Assets:

  • Portfolio to showcase experience with data visualization platforms such as Tableau or Power BI
  • Certifications in Data Analytics or Visualization tools

Eligibility:

  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or a person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment.
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number
