Starting Salary
Faculty are placed on the BCGEU salary scale based on education, experience and placement criteria as outlined in the Collective Agreement, to an initial maximum of $89,412 per annum

Fall: Aug 28 to Oct 21, 2025; Oct 22 to Dec 12, 2025 Spring: Jan 2 to Feb 25, 2026; Feb 26 to Apr 20, 2026 Intersession: Apr 27 to Jun 18, 2026; Jun 19 to Aug 11, 2026.

Duties:

Instructors may be required to teach in a variety of courses and/or programs, including multi-level English for Academic Purposes, and English for General Purposes.

Instructors may be assigned to teach in International Academic Support, ELL Learning Centre or provide instructional ELL support.

Instructors are expected to attend faculty meetings and engage in program initiatives.

Candidates must demonstrate commitment to ongoing professional training, subject currency, and institutional service.

Course delivery may be face-to-face, remote, or blended.

Instructors need to be prepared to instruct in any of these environments.

Instructors are expected to integrate basic computer skills into instruction.
Varied term and auxiliary positions may be available throughout the year.
Required Qualifications:
Applicants must have a Master's Degree from an appropriately accredited institution. Applicants with exceptional demonstrated experience or a unique combination of education and experience may be considered. Only candidates with a Master's Degree can be assigned the full slate of positions in the ELL department.
- Applicants must meet TESL Canada criteria equivalent to Professional Standard One (Permanent) and have teaching English as an additional language training and qualifications through an accredited institution with recent documented experience (minimum 1000 hours) teaching adult ELL and/or EFL.
- Applicants must also be familiar with relevant computer applications.
- Successful candidates will be either native speakers of English or able to demonstrate native-level competency; verification of fluency may be requested.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's Degree in a related field from an appropriately accredited institution. ELL teaching experience at Vancouver Island University. Additional language learning experience. International experience.
