About the role

Position: Intermediate Hydrogeologist

Location: Alberta (with approximately 30–40% field work conducted at project sites across the province)

Introduction

Brunel is seeking an experienced Intermediate Hydrogeologist to support our client’s ongoing environmental and regulatory projects across Alberta. This position is ideally suited for a qualified professional with approximately five years of experience in groundwater monitoring, hydrogeological site assessments, and the remediation of oil and gas-impacted sites.

The successful candidate will play a key role in the planning, execution, and reporting of hydrogeological investigations, providing technical expertise in groundwater flow interpretation, hydraulic conductivity testing, and the development of conceptual site models. This role involves collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, engagement with regulatory bodies, and support of junior staff, while contributing to the delivery of high-quality environmental solutions. Field work is expected to comprise approximately 30–40% of the role.

Responsibilities

  • Design and manage regulatory groundwater monitoring programs.
  • Conduct site assessments including groundwater monitoring, hydraulic conductivity and pump testing and other hydrogeological assessments.
  • Support groundwater assessment reporting including groundwater flow interpretation, hydraulic conductivity assessments, preparation of geological cross sections and conceptual site models.
  • Provide training, project management support and technical support to field staff.
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with RREC clients and team members, provide mentorship to intermediate staff and work with corporate and client vendors, and other contractor personnel engaged in client projects.
  • Perform data evaluations and interpretation of analytical results.
  • Prepare technical reports and provide report reviews of documents prior to client submission.
  • Assist in the development and execution of client workplans (Phase 2 ESA sampling plans and remediation workplans) or projects including cost estimates and time management, vendor management, quality management, risk management, safety management, procurement, and project integration.
  • Advise clients regarding strategy and approach for project work and delivery of technical documents.
  • Work within designated timeframes while completing jobs within approved budgets.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with clients and regulators.
  • Work with talented multidisciplinary teams of agrologists, geologists, hydrogeologists, and geophysicists.
  • Assist in the development and creation of company specific policies and standard operating procedures.
  • Field work to potentially comprise 30-40% of the total job description

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor of Science in hydrogeology, engineering, or geology.
  • Possesses, pursuing or eligible for a professional designation with APEGA as a hydrogeologist, engineer, or geologist.
  • Approximately 5 years’ experience in assessment, remediation and/or management of oil and gas contaminated sites in Alberta
